Simply incredible!

Kong totally wowed us. We had cauliflower wings and croquettes to start which were tasty and plentiful, but the big wow factor came from the ‘steak and egg’ dish, served with a side of rice, salad and fries (a very generous portion too!). Honestly incredible. This was so tasty and a really cool concept for me. We concluded with the Nutella cake and the parfait for dessert – I highly recommend the parfait, what an amazing combination of mango and chocolate. Definitely go if you’re in Lisbon. I hope to return someday.

Amazing Portugese Food

If you're looking to try some Portuguese food that has been exceptionally veganised, then I absolutely recommend Kong! The egg and seitan are wonderful, such a treat to experience 😋 Also very decent prices for what looks like an upmarket place!

Amazing!!!

Kong is the perfect example of how a vegan restaurant can deliver an exceptional experience without any pretension. From the moment you walk in, you feel genuinely welcomed — the staff, from servers to the owners, are incredibly kind and attentive, making every visit feel personal and warm.

The menu is small, but every dish is absolutely delicious, prepared with care and bursting with flavor. During our five nights in Lisbon, we ended up dining here twice and honestly wish we had come even more often. It is easily one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to — and I’ve been to many around the world.

Kong proves that you don’t need to be flashy or overcomplicated to stand out. It’s simply excellent food, amazing people, and a truly welcoming atmosphere.

Delicious Portuguese food veganized

We had bacalhau, bitoque and pastei de nata for dessert. Everything was lovely, just a little bit too much mustard in the sauce of the bitoque but still loved it. 2 ciders, €40 in total

Pros: Flavourful traditional Portuguese food, Friendly service, Excellent location and nice inside with A/C

Cons: Too much mustard on the sauce of the bitoque

Another level of vegan food 💚

We came because of the ratings on HappyCow and we loved it here! Very nice waiters and great food. Also the prices are good and worth it we think.

Loved it

Went here with my omnivore friend, we both loved it. We had starter, Main and a dessert and a glass of wine each and payed around 30 euros each. She had the salmon, and said it tasted like the real thing. I had Francesinha and it was really good. The pistash cake was amazing

Good food, slow service.

Food was balanced but lacked some taste. I had the cheesecake for dessert, which was disappointing. Very small pieces, without a decent ‘cheesecake’ height. The taste was not amazing enough to merit the small size.

Also, the waiting time was crazy long.

Overall it seems overrated, but still good. Good and fair pricing.

One Star, Anything More is an Offence to Greater Vegan Restaurants

TLDR: far too much salt. We ordered the cheeseboard and a fish soup. The soup was basically tomato soup with salt to make it seem more sea-ish and one of the two cheeses was like the most salty butter ever. As for the other there are very similar/improved artisan blocks of cheese for half the price in the UK.
The following cod dish ended up unfinished (although I then helped so as to not be wasteful) because it was bland and salty. If one made a tofu with dill and lemon sauce at home it would be better. And my salmon style dish had tofu wrapped and fried with nori and sesame seed, easily recreated. The accompanying salty potato cubes are similar but outclassed by supermarket curly fries in the UK (which are less salty) and with soupy sauce that was poured into the middle of the arrangement only added to me starting to feel a little nauseous. We left feeling relatively full after a light on food day, but not in a full of good, vibrant and truly creative praiseworthy food kind of way.
Overall, I'm left quite salty and questioning how this place is being touted as the best vegan restaurant in Europe. And top five in the world is bizarre. None of the true greatest rely on appearances and salt!

Inmejorable

Some good food, some bad; hostile waiter.

Mushroom Tartlet With Berry Coulis and a side of fries.
Salad was stale, looking and tasting as if it came from a pre-made bag bought in a supermarket two days earlier. Fries were soggy and barely warm. The tartlet itself was very nice, delicious pastry and a tasty sauce.

On the downside, our waiter was quite unpleasant - when we ordered starters and sides, he said, "Do you actually want to eat here? You can go to one of the other restaurants down the road". It was so unexpected that it took us several seconds to process what he had said.

Despite explaining we wanted something light as it was too early for a main meal, he proceeded to treat us with apparent contempt the whole time we were there. Although we had been excited to order from a delicious-sounding selection of desserts, we decided to leave the hostile atmosphere ASAP and therefore were unable to try any.

It was mid-afternoon and the place was almost empty, so we weren't preventing them from seating a higher-spending party. We weren't rude or loud... As you can tell, we spent a lot of time trying to understand why he didn't want us there.

It is only fair to add that the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful, so we think the problem was only this particular waiter.

Pros: Nice furnishings, (mostly) pleasant ambience, Nice selection of desserts

Cons: Horrible waiter, Stale salad and fries

I don't know if it was the same waiter, mostly likely it was, but I picked up unpleasant vibes from him too. And no way would I rate that food anywhere near the number one vegan restaurant in Europe or the top five in the world!

Delicious!

Delicious vegan food - mostly doing a vegan take on meat or fish dishes, like fake salmon (tofu wrapped in seaweed) or seitan ‘meat’ skewers. Everything we had was really tasty and flavoursome, the service was great and the vibe good too. Kind service. I enjoyed the basil smash cocktail too!

Likely the best food I’ve ever had

Ate at Kong twice on our trip - once with a regular menu and again on Valentine’s Day.

It’s definitely in the top 5 vegan places I’ve been to and maybe even takes the top spot.

Staff were super friendly both times.

Pros: Atmosphere , Friendly staff, The food was so good

Cons: I have to cross the ocean to get back to it

5-star service

The food was delicious, but what truly impressed us was the service. With just two staff members managing the entire restaurant, they were incredibly professional—fast, efficient, and completely in control. They served with a smile, carried multiple dishes with ease, and took the time to clearly explain each item to guests. It was impressive to watch and made the whole dining experience smooth and enjoyable.

Highly recommend

The food here is excellent. I went with 5 of my non-vegan friends and they all said it was the best vegan food they’ve ever had and were very impressed. We had the croquettes and mushroom pie for starters which were both amazing. The ribs were excellent, but the star was the mushroom risotto. So much flavour! The atmosphere and the staff were also lovely.

Impressed this non-vegan!

I am not a vegan and I’m also an adventurous eater, and Kong has straight-up delicious food. We shared 5 dishes (three starters and two desserts): croquettes, “cheese” board, pica pau, pineapple carpaccio, and the pistachio petit gateau. All were amazing!

Pros: Pica pau was my favorite! Best seitan ever, Croquettes were as good as top-tier non-veg ones, Petit gateau is like a pistachio lava cake

Cons: Service was friendly but a bit slow (busy time)

Glad we went back

We wanted to visit this restaurant on our first day in lisbon but it was closed despite online it saying something different. We went back spontaniously on our last day and well, im happy we did!

The whole interior and decoration is abolutely beautiful. This place looks impressive and feels more like a whole experience. My friend had a franceshina and I only had two starters, but they were more than enough. The croquetas were so crispy and well flavoured. I even started to eat the sourdough bread with the sauce they came with. Speaking of the sourdough, it made my german heart extremely happy. Im pretty sure it was the best bread I had while in portugal. Even though I only had a small meal, I was still super full (thanks to the olive oil) and happy. I would have hated to miss this!

Such a vibe!

The food was amazing. Great atmosphere and super nice people. I had the croquettes as an appetizer and the mushroom risotto as the main course. I loved both choices. I did not have a reservation and it was a busy Friday night. Everyone was so nice and they got me a table quickly. I would definitely recommend this spot if you’re in Lisbon!

Unbeschreiblich gut
