Awesome food (get the udon!!) - Edit
The paprika place is literally just down the alleyway after this place which was closed and we tried this place. What a stroke of luck for us as this place was so good, we're shuffling things to make sure we revisit this place.
Read moreVegan soup udon is a must (crispy rice mochi topping which is uncommon).
There is a "yuba sashima" which we will try which uses soy (will update)
The staff are not English speakers but the lady who served us did their utmost to help and explain the dishes, there is also English in the menu but not the most clear of vegan/vegetarian (so ask).
Pros: Awesome local food, Very local feeling experience , Lots of options and helpful staff

Excellent! - Edit
Really great to have vegetarian/vegan menu with lots of options. I would have given five stars but didn't realise that five stars is only allowed for fully veg places but actually this was better for me as my partner is not vegetarian so caters for us both perfectly.

Would 5 star if I could but there’s a dumb rule abt not being able to 5 star if it’s not a fully veg/vegan restaurant 🙄

Vegan and authentic - Edit
We did not plan to go here but the restaurant we wanted was closed and this was a few feet away displaying the happy cow logo on their door. When we went the staff understood we were vegan and walked us through the menu. We ordered ramen (from a happy cow review’s photo) an assorted grilled vegetable plate and eggplant (aubergine) and miso dressing. All were scrumptious. If you don’t like sharing your space with meat eaters, this isn’t the place for you. #Veganuary

Great ramen! - Edit
I ordered the ramen and they were great and the broth very flavourful. I also recommend taking the fried tofu. It was soo good. If you want to have local food at a place not overrun with tourists try this :)

They go above and beyond to help us. They tell you when something contains egg/dairy products. I ate delicious gyoza, yuba, shiitake, asparagus and red ginger brochettes (zone’s specialty) and gingko fruits. I loved everything!

Good menu! - Edit
The vegan option was delicious! Tried both the ramen and udon noodle option. Realistically Japan is INCREDIBLY hard to find vegan or at least vegetarian friendly food. It’s amazing that I found a spot in a very busy and heavily meat eating area. If you’re an ethical vegan maybe this isn’t the place for you. The workers were friendly and offered a vegan only menu.

Weird place - Edit
I’m honestly really surprised by the great reviews here and on google. The restaurant is known for their beef intestine udon which I found very off putting. It’s great that they have a vegan menu but it seems antithetical to the rest of their food. I guess it’s fine in a pinch but I got the vegan udon and it wasn’t great, plus I felt nauseous starting about 30min after the meal😒

Decent quality for the offer around! - Edit
Tasty udon in Shinsekai that cares about vegans, so cheers for a local business for including a dedicated vegan menu among a mostly meat and fish-driven space. The owner was welcoming, caring about all dietary restrictions and I've got nothing to complain about.

My favourite food experience in Osaka - Edit
Ate here twice over a 4 day stay in Osaka and would be a regular if I lived there. Whilst lots of vegan places now exist in Japan’s big cities I found many of them lacking a little something in real local feeling and flavour. Here though, you get a small but decent menu of veg options suitable for people after vegan and gluten free takes on local dishes. We had 2 amazing udon bowls across our visits - one with fat, chewy wheat udon, the other with fat, chewy rice noodles - with cucumber and fried yam sides. Really nice and helpful staff who understand veganism and are happy to help you out. This type of place is obviously no good for visitors who don’t want to be around animals products at all because they mostly deal extensively in meat dishes. However, I much preferred this kind of option for the authenticity and experience plus zero annoying waiting times when we were hungry.

Delicious soba noodles - Edit
Delicious noodles, big enough serving that you don't need any sides. If you eat egg you can get tempura in your noodles.
Read moreWhen you put the name of the restaurant into Google maps, be careful to select the one with '2nd store' in its name. There is a sister store 5 minutes walk to the north but they do not offer vegetarian options even though they advertise a 'vegetarian menu' which includes fish - they said only the 2nd store doesn't include fish.

Nice spot! - Edit
We were looking for a different (all vegan) restaurant, but stumbled upon this one instead. (If you are looking for Shinsekai Paprika Shokudo, which is all vegan, it’s in the alley behind this restaurant. However, this restaurant had a vegan menu and the chef made sure to explain how he makes these dishes. All of the staff were really nice and the food was good and very quick. Can totally recommend, especially if you are traveling with a non-vegan as they have lots of options with meat or fish.

I loved it here - Edit
I had walked 30 minutes to try another restaurant that has been on my list, I ended up getting there too late so had to find another option, I came across this little gem, very nice vibe. They had a few veggie options, I got the Vegan Udon. It was delicious, and very very filling. The owner I assume, was so sweet! He gave me a handful of grapes as I was leaving. I also recommend their house made ginger ale, I had two glasses, it was SOOO yummy.

Authentic flavor, quality noodles - Edit
Despite the price, I really like these noodles because the soup broth is delicious and the noodles are made from brown rice flour. They had a fantastic texture. I’m hoping if more vegans visit their shop, they might add more options like sides to their menu.
