Delicious Kakigori - Edit
Went there on a hot summer day and got the Matcha Kakigori with anko and dango (~1100¥). It was absolutely delicious!!
Read moreThe matcha sirup was not too sweet and still had bits of matcha that settled on top of the very light ice. The anko was sweet but not too sweet and the dango were very soft.
The overall amount was very good for the price and quality you get there.
The sencha that came with the food was very mild and tasted sweet when paired with the Kakigori. The small downside was thet the leaves were still in the water which made the last cup a bit bitter.
I have to agree with the other people saying that the guy working there makes you feel unwelcome. But I talked to him a bit in Japanese and he got really interested in the talk and was actually really friendly!
He speaks English aswell.

Historic vibe, but not the most welcoming - Edit
This place is worth visiting if only for the venue itself - a real, historic-feeling tea house. I paid 750 yen for tea and a trio of Ohagi. The tea was okay but nothing noteworthy, and the Ohagi were tasty if a bit too sweet (but that's subjective). There were 2 people working there: an old lady and a young guy. The old lady was lovely, but the guy wasn't friendly and seemed annoyed to be working there. Maybe he had a bad day, I'm not here to judge, but it did affect my experience.

Fresh ohagi - Edit
(Take note that this is not a purely vegan traditional cafe. They serve animal milk!)
Read moreTheir ohagi was really good and fresh, and the amount was just right. The taste of the anko was really delicious. I also liked their gozenshiruko. Everything was reasonably priced considering the location and the quality of the food. Their service was not that great though (but I would probably consider it good if they provided the same level of service outside Japan). Would’ve given them a 4 if they were purely vegan.

Must visit - Edit
Traditional Japanese. It's a small place with just a few tables but it's a great place for dessert or breakfast. Tea is complementary.

Cute and authentic - Edit
A wonderful teahouse with tasty wagoshi! We enjoyed our time here drinking tea and trying the different wagoshi. Great, authentic ambiance, not touristy at all. Very much recommended!
Read moreThe HappyCow location is a bit off, so at first we walked past it. Google maps has a picture of the front entrance.
Pros: Nice wagoshi, Not touristy

Very nice ☺️ - Edit
Small place, very old, but very delightful. Coming here is a nice little mini Japanese tea experience. Nice place for a sweet Japanese snack with tea and matcha

Definitely not to miss - Edit
Tiny historic tea house, this place is definitely a must if you are visiting the Highashiyama district in Kyoto. The seating area is very small, but never gets too crowded. You will be served green tea or matcha, with some simple yet delicious wagashi made with rice and anko (azuki bean jam). Everything is vegan.
