Having difficulty finding vegan Okonomiyaki in Kyoto?
Here is the solution!
This place has not only English menu but also vegan section on the menu.
It’s really fun to see the young chef doing his thing on the Teppan right in front of you, and you get to taste the food straight from the hot plate.
Extra fun: please pay attention to the dynamics between the chef and other staff. It was very cool to see the restaurant staff having fun and enjoying themselves at work.
Pros: Vegan Okonomiyaki, Vegan Yakisoba, Staff

Amazing taste & experience - Edit
Its already entertaining just to watch the performance of the chef that prepares the food, but the food itself is also very delicious. For me it was the best food in a non-veggie restaurant in Kyoto!

Yummm - Edit
Really lovely to be able to have a vegan okonomiyaki experience. Was welcomed as a vegan. You will see some meat etc cooked on the grill near you (in case that is a no go for you) but this is an authentic place and the chef is super considerate to avoid cross contamination where possible! Super delicious just make sure you go as soon as you can once in Kyoto as best to book it you’ll likely be turned away!

Limited options of course but worth it . Not really a protein heavy meal but lots of delicious vegetables.
They have English writing on everything and signs that show exactly what’s in all the food with pictures .
It’s super easy to navigate the buffet .

Small venue, good food - Edit
We booked on a Sunday evening and were able to get a table for the coming Wednesday at the earliest. Had a vegan set menu available. The waitress made an effort to clarify if we were able to eat pork, fish, egg and milk to make dishes suitable for vegetarians.

Enjoyed the okonomiyaki!

Great food and atmosphere - Edit
We liked this place so much we went 2 nights in a row. It’s small and if you don’t reserve in the busy season you’ll be disappointed. There’s 8 seats at the kitchen bar and a larger table on the side. It’s a real show to watch the chef. Everything is cooked in front of you. We really like the okonomiyaki. We are vegetarians and there’s a good selection. It is not only excellent it has a great atmosphere. It’s also easy to strike a conversation with the other guests. If you’re in Kyoto keep this restaurant in mind. But make a reservation so you’re not disappointed

A little disappointed - Edit
We tried booking twice and failed. We finally succeeded the third time and my expectations at that point were quite high! Turns out the restaurant is just quite small😄The food was good but there were very few vegan options! Only one for the okonomiyaki and a couple for the side dishes. That was below expectations😒Nevertheless, I believe that it's worth going once.

AUTHENTIC VEGAN JAPANESE!! - Edit
You have to add this to your list if you are in Kyoto, but make sure you swing by the day before of even just early to book ahead as it’s only a small place. The food is unreal and you finally feel like you are getting that authentic Japanese experience which is hard when vegan!

Best Okonomiyaki we had in Japan - Edit
A very cozy small restaurant with a super nice and attentive staff. The Okonomiyaki was the best we had in Japan! I recommend a reservation because the place is very popular and there are only a few seats available.

Great to be able to have the teppan experience for vegans - Edit
We really enjoy eating there because as a vegan you don't get to experience many teppan style resturants or izakayas which it is really a shame.
Read moreThere is a small separate vegan menu, not the cheapest but again, it is mostly for the experience.
Food was ok, not mindblowing but definetely worth it.
It is a very small place so it gets full very, very quickly. Get there early or make a reservation.

Cons: Small venue, gets full fast, Mostly foreign customers

Lots of fun - Edit
I’m sure cross contamination is an issue, and I have a suspicion they used fish sauce unfortunately. Tofu steak and noodle pancake was delish. The grill in front of you was lots of fun too!!! Forgot to take photos before I ate lol sorry.

Quite the experience! - Edit
It was my first time eating okonomiyaki, and it was quite the experience! This was my second time stopping by the restaurant (the first time, they were closed only for reservations), and I lucked out in being able to sit in without a reservation since I was alone. I could sit and watch the chef cook, which was really cool! I noticed that he was really careful about trying not to cross-contaminate the tools he used when making the vegan okonomiyaki and separated it from the non-vegan ones, which I thought was super considerate and thoughtful (wasn’t sure if it was intentional or coincidental). The servers were really friendly and helpful and even spoke English to ensure that what I ordered was, in fact, vegan (even double-checking with me to see if I was). The rice cake dumplings I had were amazingly delicious, and I would definitely order them again!

We had a great experience here. We had a party of six, which is big for small Japanese restaurants to accommodate. They were very nice and made space for us. Everyone in our party loved their meals. The appetizers were fun.

A very good dinner in a small cozy place - Edit
The place is very small (12 seats at most) so book in advance if you don't want to wait, since a dinner from start to finish can be lengthy.
Read moreIf you are 2 people you'll be seated right in front of the cooks preparing okonomiyaki which is awesome.
Be aware of cross-contamination: when you order a vegan menu they use a small portion of the cooker, they will clean it and use different clean utensils, but if the night is busy the cleaning of the cooker may not be thorough.
We personally didn't mind

Great experience - Edit
The staff in the restaurant are lovely. We were sat at the bar so had our food made right in front of us. They completely understood what vegan means and checked with me beforehand that it was correct. They cleaned off the grill and utensils thoroughly and cooked my main on its own (a little awkward with the rest of the diners watching me eat after but it didn’t take long to cook their food once mine was made!). The food was excellent and I’m just sad that I won’t be able to get okonomiyake at home. The restaurant is very small, you will need to book if you want to go; they were fully booked when we visited and had to turn away many groups that tried to get in.
