Hidden Gem

Wow! I am not a huge fan of noodles or Asian fare in general, but this place went a long way in changing my mind. I am so glad that my partner and I decided to check this place out after touring the City Rose Garden. The service, vibe, and food were all top notch. The food was scrumptious, and the presentation was beautiful. At first, I thought the portions were small and would not fill me up. I was completely wrong. My only complaint was that the air conditioning was not working so it was way too hot for my liking.

Pros: Nice vibe, Excellent food, Excellent service

Exciting food

The food lived up to everybody else’s photos and reviews. It was unexpected and exciting, delicious and fresh. The service was impeccable. I liked the small restaurant setting because it enabled the staff to give real attention to detail. The noodle soup bowls are absolutely humongous. I could probably feed a family of four with mine! It was unfortunate that the Gyoza sold out as that is one of my favourite things at Japanese restaurants. Crispy cucumber turned out to be a great hit with my husband too. For me the highlight really was the mochi ice cream dessert! The price was very reasonable for everything too. I also definitely recommend the top shelf oolong tea.

Sugoi! Amazing!

This is the type of experience that would make me want to move to Portland. My husband thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The shumai is something you have to order! I haven't had shumai as long as I've been veg (20+ years) and these were fantastic! I'm half Filipina and it was fun to see some Filipino food on the menu for people to try. There was butterfly flower tea with calamansi and even an adobo dish. My husband enjoyed their version. We also had the chili oil wontons. The Bibim Dangmyeon was a refreshing dish for a summer evening. Loved the Korean pear. Overall, if you enjoy Asian food and kind service, you will be so happy you ate there! Ichiza Kitchen is Ichiban!

Pros: Vegan Asian Food, Wonderful Service

Cons: Not where I live!

Perfect.

We’ve eaten here twice, and were enchanted both times. Outstanding original flavors, wonderful staff, perfect presentation, and like most everything in Portland, really reasonably priced. Best vegan ramen ever, and don’t miss the mochi.

Amazing

Everything in this cozy little restaurant was completely delicious. I would especially reccomend the dumplings, kimchi mungbean cakes, and the mochi plate for dessert. The broth in the Lan Zhou was amazing, non-vegan partner rated it as one of the best broths she’s ever had. This is great food.

Pros: Exceptional Food, Really Friendly Staff, Cozy Atmosphere

Wonderful

Had the fortunate experience of dinner here. Ichiza is the zen principle of stopping to contemplate one’s path. We partook in Gaiwan Service and had a delicious tea, some cheung fun, ramen and Lan Zhou. I actually couldn’t believe it was vegan because the faux meat tastes so real. I highly recommend if you’re in Portland.

Pros: food

great menu

Nice options for small plates and big bowls. Portion is huge for tonkatsu ramen. The pork belly was too real and I couldn’t eat it. So that could be a good thing.

Fun, Asian, funky little gem. Food was good and very attractive too. I had my eye on other patrons’ meals as well as my own...need to come back and try some more menu items.

Hard to find, comfort, Asian food.

I was so excited when this cozy and comfortable Pan-Asian restaurant opened. I love coming here for Asian comfort foods that I've missed so much. There's big bowls of rice, noodles and soup along with dim sum style appetizers and gourmet teas. It's run by two amazing guys that really put their heart into the food and atmosphere.

Tip: go for afternoon tea, before the evening rush, they open at 3pm. Ask the chef to make you an appetizer sampler.

Pros: Comfortable

Yes, this place is that good

Wonderful, authentic Japanese style dinning. Cute little place not much space but the music, food and service certainly make up for how tiny it is in there. Just amazing food and tea! Can’t wait to go back

Pros: tea, food, dessert

Cons: small space

Future Staple

This is far and away one of the best new vegan restaurants in Portland. Most places that offer veggie ramen are happy to serve some noodles in mushroom water, but the people behind Ichiza have multiple ramen options that are all savory, filling, and rich. We ordered way too much food (the portions are huge) for two adults and a 7 and 3 year old; mung bean cakes and bacon/shrimp noodle rolls were fantastic. The Tonkotsu ramen with mock pork belly was phenomenal (if you've ever had Van Hanh's House Special BBQ Pork, it's kinda like that in texture). Lan Zhou ramen was complex but still satisfying, and the Adobo rice bowl was ridiculously flavorful.

The space is small and they were very busy when we went, but we received some of the friendliest service we've ever had in Portland. Both servers were helpful, not stressed or rushed despite how busy it was, and very nice to our kids. Our 3 year old kept eating her Tonkotsu ramen even after they boxed it up for us, and kept talking about it the rest of the night.

Can't recommend this place more, really excited to go back.

Pros: flavor, service, value

Cons: small space

Authentic Vegan Japanese Food

I lived in Japan for years and go back regularly and I am in love with Ichiza. Their onigiri (rice balls) were so good and their tea choices were spot on for the meal. The noodle bowls were huge and the tofu was done just perfect. The service is great. Not a huge seating area so get here early!

My meal:
Big Red tea - iced
Picked plum onigiri
Fox udon with fox noodles

Pros: Delicious, authentic food, Large servings, Tea, small platters, and noodles pair nicely

Cons: Small amount of seating, get there early, Kind of warm in the summer, wear layers

Delightful surprise

We tried many small plates and the fox udon, and it was all very well made and beautifully presented. If this place was in a slightly nicer location /building, they could easily charge 50% more. Very very tasty.

Pros: All vegan, low-key, delicious, good price

What a great find Ichiza was for two travelling kiwis.
A small but intimate setting, our host welcomed us in with a friendly and genuine smile.
The tea and food was both aromatic and delicious.
We highly recommend this restaurant to everyone

Great New Spot in Goose Hollow

I am so happy we found this restaurant today! The food is great and a little different than the other vegan places in Portland. The staff was super friendly and the space was pretty cute. I didn't realize the restaurant was there next to Vtopia until we were right in front of it. The food we had was wonderful and the teas were very refreshing. We cannot wait to go back!!!

Pros: All Vegan, Plenty of options, Great teas
