Amazing! - Edit
What a surprise! We usually hang out mostly on the east side of Portland but wanted to try some vegan on the west side. And this is the place to go! Best vegan salmon ever and the transformation of the butterfly lemonade awed is all!

Great experience, the food was a bit rich - Edit
An amazing place - the tea and sake were both absolutely excellent. The food was a bit rich for our taste. Also with noting it is more pan-Asian than Japanese.

Great Food, Great Atmosphere, outstanding service - Edit
Had an absolutely perfect dinner here tonite. Yes, you have to order everything at once (including drinks) Yes most of the food comes out at the same time. Yes, the food is absolutely visually stunning. And most importantly, Yes every bite was true love. Portion sizes are good, we stayed just with small dishes tonite but eager to go back for more. Great sake and really fun tea with tea service. Ichizawa Kitchen and Tea House are definitely not to be missed.

slightly disappointing - Edit
I was prepared to be blown away but was slightly disappointed.
Read morePositives: The rabbit-shaped buns were cute. The chili wontons were tasty. The butterfly pea tea/(lemonade?) was good and not too sweet. The greens were good. Outside tables were nice.
Negatives: Inside was stuffy- we quickly moved outside. Guess we ordered wrong because almost everything (the bowls, the wontons, the spicy chili cucumber) had the same chili flavor. The bowl was pretty tasteless aside from the chili. The menu says you can only order once so we asked the waitress how much we should order and we ended up with literally double what we could eat for three people. Some got thrown away and I took some back to my hotel and tried to stuff it into the tiny minifridge, but some ended up going bad anyway. As a person who hates food waste this was really tough for me. I am sure they have their reasons but this just seems like it's going to create food waste if you don't live there and can't take things back with you.
I would recommend not ordering too much the first time and just going to Vtopia next door if you're still hungry after. I could have done with just the starters and it would have been enough.

skip the bowls and treat this like pan-asian tapas! - Edit
i've eaten here a few times and i have found the dishes to be a little inconsistent - sometimes they are transcendently delicious and sometimes pretty blah. the best i have done is when i order a bunch of the small plates and share with my dinner mates - that way if one of the dishes doesn't hit the right note for you, you haven't spent $16 on it! i really like a lot of their food and find it to be a great spot to eat. just watch out if you're going on a warm day because the dining room can get pretty stuffy! the very best is if you can snag one of the two tables outside.

Fantastic pan-asian, great service - Edit
Ichiza seems like a very Japanese restaurant at first, with its aesthetic and presentation. But when you start looking at their menu, you realize it’s more pan-asian. You’ll find a lot of dim sum, but also a heavy Filipino influence with dishes like adobo and a couple Filipino desserts (halo halo, sapin sapin).
Read moreAll of the food is incredibly well-made, and comes out all at once when you order (all at once is what ichiza means). Consequently it can take a bit for your food to come out, especially if it’s busy. It’s a small restaurant and there’s only about 6 tables worth of space.
Bonus is that it’s next to Vtopia, so you can grab some vegan cheese next door when you leave!
Pros: Variety of dishes
Cons: Small

Amazing and unique dishes - Edit
We ordered almost one of every small plate, mostly just to try as much as we could. Our favorites were the chili oil wontons (the sauce is very spicy), shumai which are like open faced dumplings with tapioca fish eggs (ikura), and the kimchi dumplings. The buns were a little off-putting because they’re shaped like actual bunnies 🤣😂 Everything was fantastic- highly recommend.

Good! - Edit
Most of the food we tried here was pretty good. Mapo tofu was delicious but unfortunately lacked the numbing spiciness the dish is known for. The chili oil wontons and turnip cake were very yummy. The ba wan buns were absolutely adorable, but a little disappointing. Described on the menu as a steam bun, I expected the lovely, bready, yeastiness of a typical "pork" bun, but the texture was gooey and gelatinous. To be fair, I confused ba wan with bao, so this disappointment is mostly on me -- though I do still think the buns were pretty skimpy on filling too. The butterfly pea tea drink we got was also very pretty but bland. Altogether, there were some disappointments, but they were made up for by other really delicious items, and I hope to come back someday and try some new things along with the items I enjoyed.

I felt dishes are little costly(ramen $17-18, dumplings $6-8), but food was great I can’t deny! Also, ramen is huge. Don’t order too much😂

Tiny but mighty! - Edit
We had lunch and just beat the crowd. Service was not fast compared to many restaurants, but given the size of the place, it was very efficient. We ordered the turnip cakes, shumai, and ramen with vegan egg. They have done a very effective job of capturing meat textures, some of which were pleasant and others a bit off-putting for me (especially the meat/fat in the ramen!), but this would be a great option for a recent convert missing those. Everything was wonderfully flavored and presented. The waiter asked if we were sharing, and as we were, they split the ramen between two, and they brought it out in two bowls, which was helpful.

Really special - Edit
On our recent visit to Portland, our vegan family of four really enjoyed our dinner at Ichiza. The staff was so attentive, knowledgeable and friendly and the food (and tea) was delicious. It's a small and special place. We had the chili oil wontons, the cheung fun and the bean curd skin appetizers and the adobo and party pancit large bowls. Would order it all again.

So good - Edit
The waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I got the pork/shrimp dumplings which were really good and the ramen bowl, not the spicy one and it was delicious and I got the fake egg in it which was so good!!! Two of my non vegan friends came with and loved what they got as well !

Vegan Pan-Asian Cuisine - Edit
Such an adorable little cafe that had all vegan food in the pan-Asian style. The food is happily edible by vegans, and it tries really hard.
Read moreThe prices are alright but portions are kind of small. The textures aren’t my favorite, but the flavors are good. The menu marks gluten free items.
Shumai, radish cake, bibimbap, wontons, noodle soup, gyoza and adobo chicken pretty much are the menu. They may run out of the egg or this that or the other, so just be understanding. Everyone is very nice here.
There’s an extensive selection of teas and some sake that is local.
Pros: All vegan, Some gluten free
Cons: Runs out of items
