Incredible - Edit
Huge menu. Loved the all vegan location. Went twice. Got a neat and tasty wonton ramen the first time and an absolutely delicious spread of vegan sushi rolls the second time. Both times got the yuzu limonade because it was so good. Seems popular but understaffed, so service was very slow the second visit. Absolutely worth the wait but hopefully they staff up, especially during busy meal times.

Incredible flavors - Edit
We loved the sushi mix for 2 and the miso soups that come with it. We also ordered a side of edamame and on another occasion, the Tantan ramen and Halloween crispy rolls. Everything was delicious and we would certainly return a 3rd time! Lovely food and beautiful space.

Tasty Japanese Dishes - Edit
We were really excited to find a fully vegan Japanese restaurant in Berlin.
Read moreFor starters, we shared the mochi agedashi and karaage. The mochi sounded like a really fun idea, but the texture was not enjoyable to us, too chewy. We quite enjoyed the vegan karaage, it had a lovely crisp coating. But the meat was a little under seasoned and the texture inside could use more bite, it was a bit mushy.
My partner had the Japanese curry. The sauce was tasty and had those familiar notes of a classic Japanese curry, but it was a very scant portion. He liked the chicken here a lot more than the karaage, in terms of both flavour and texture.
I had the tantan ramen, and really enjoyed it. The broth was rich and nicely spiced. The noodles were plentiful, it was a filling dish. And the toppings were quite good, particularly the soy meat.
All in all, it was good but not perfect. It's a nice restaurant, stylish and spacious with very fast service.
Note: the only card payments they accept are from German bank cards. If you don't have one, you need to pay with cash.

The First Fully Vegan Izakaya in Berlin - Edit
I love the Izakaya concept and had a great time at Iro Izakaya a few months ago, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when I saw a few weeks ago that they were opening a vegan branch!
Read moreFollowing the newly opened Iro Izakaya 2 in Prenzlauer Berg, Iro Izakaya Vegan is the latest addition to the explosive expansion of Iro Izakaya, the Japanese restaurant at the corner of Boxenhager Platz that I've praised for their inventive and entertaining sake menu.
I just came home from the soft opening of Iro Izakaya Vegan and let me tell you - it was an amazing event. The food was free and the drinks only cost 2€ each. Everything was vegan and tasted great. I had sushi, ramen and different kinds of Japanese tapas. There was a DJ playing loud, groovy house music - one of my absolute favorite genres -, and we were lucky enough to get a table right next to her. The place was medium-sized and pretty soon after we arrived it got completely full, which made the whole atmosphere even better.
The decoration was quite simple and Japanese-inspired. The service was excellent. Everyone I talked to - two waiters, two bartenders, two chefs and the DJ - all looked Japanese, almost no one spoke German, and some barely even English. One of the waitresses wore a traditional kimono and wooden sandal shoes that made a "knack knack knack" noise as she walked around. I liked it - I found it authentic.
I'm extremely excited that we now have a fully vegan Izakaya in Berlin. I expect this to be a great addition to the Berlin vegan scene and am already looking forward to going back here on a normal evening. Arigatou!
Update: I went here for my 30th birthday dinner and it was fantastic. Yasai Gyoza was the highlight!
Update: Tried the sushi and it was great as well!

Also so kenne ich Das.

Wide selection of vegan sushi - Edit
This place is worth a visit, even if you don’t generally like sushi. They do have a broad range including crispy rolls. Personally, I’m not a fan of seaweed but the Halloween rolls I tried did not have that strong taste of nigiri. If you order two or more sushi dishes they will arrange them on one plate so remember your order and listen closely when they bring it if you’re in larger group like I was.

I really liked the yasai gyoza and their alcohol free drink (something with matcha and yuzu). The ramen was good, but the broth was a bit blend. I asked for chili and soysauce, which was no problem.

Bad luck? - Edit
I came on a Thursday evening and they did not have some dishes available but had the gyozas which were nice but the tantan ramen broth was a bit bland before mixing in the chilli and the noodles were very overcooked so did not finish my meal and my drink never came. The toppings were nice on the ramen, maybe I made the wrong choices on a bad night going by other reviews.
