Good food but bad experience - Edit
The pictures from other happy cow users make it seem like there is a buffet. This is not the case anymore. You can only order a la carte.
Read moreWe received a summer menu but on the website there was another menu. When we wanted to order a fig pasta, they told us the figs were not in season.. even though it was on the (seasonal) summer menu. So we could not order it. She presented us with an alternative that was not on the menu. Afterwards we saw on the receipt that this alternative was 5 euros more expensive..
Besides this, they charged us for the bread that they gave us without asking for..
The food was good, but nothing special.
I would not come back here.
Pros: Food tastes good
Cons: Small portion sizes

The first vegetarian restaurant I visited in Rome - Edit
Il Margutta is the first restaurant my husband and I visited in the 90 ties when I was lacto ovo vegetarian. The food is still so delicious now when we are both vegan and we visit Il Margutta when we are in Rome.

Classy but good - Edit
This is a classy restaurant whose prices are not too high, and whose quality is undeniable. The menu offers many interesting options of naturally vegetarian (or vegan - I'd say 90% is either vegan or can be made vegan) dishes, and you can easily eat a light meal or have something heavier if you need it.
Read moreThe environment is green thanks to a lot of plants, and there are paintings on the wall (that I guess you can buy) in line with the tradition of the whole street in which the restaurant is located.
The staff is very elegant and friendly. I would recommend going there without a doubt!

Great cocktails! - Edit
My husband and I were looking for a nice place to eat for dinner while we arrived in Rome. We came across the restaurant and was really excited to try their food.
Read moreThe restaurant was lovely inside and out. We started off with their cocktails, which were amazing! We ordered a few of their dishes and were really disappointed. The food was not flavorful and tasted pretty bland.
During our visit, there was only one other guest. The restaurant was pretty much empty.

Best vegan dinner ever! - Edit
At the end of our Italy vacation we visited this vegetarian/vegan restaurant highlight. We were quite underdressed, because we were on a hiking vacation. However the staff treated us well anyway. Everything was excellent in this restaurant. They have entire multi-course menus. It's clearly marked, which food is vegan or "can be made vegan". I would say 3/4 of their menu is vegan/can-be-made-vegan. They also have several vegan wine options. I would recommend it and go here again. Obviously it's expensive, however the price is matched by excellent quality and marvelous food. We were blown away by the seitan skewers. I've never tasted such delicious seitan.

Sadly our worst food in one week rom (dinner) - Edit
We were looking forward to nice food in this restaurant but it already disappointed with the starter. The salad was rotten (like really rotten), the avocado was totally unripe, hard as a rock. The sauce for the pasta was the same like the (cold) soup. The homemade bread for 4 eur(!!) was one half very nice, the other half was already dry. Our worst food in one week rome… and the most expensive with 60 eur (no wine, only water).

Great buffet lunch - Edit
Really liked the buffet lunch option as it meant I could try lots of different foods. The buffet is both veggie and vegan but staff made me aware of the vegan options and there was plenty of them. Special mention goes to the fried courgettes and tomato pasta. Delicious!

Good vegetarian restaurant with lots of vegan options! - Edit
Sat outside and it was really nice and peaceful! The service was good! The food was really good! They even offered me a gaspacho to start, on the house! Just a little note, if you do not want the water or bread make sure you refuse it, if you don't-- they will charge you for it!

Wow - delicious! - Edit
The lunch buffet here is really impressive - lots of choice with many different salads, hot dishes and soup, but the best thing is the care they put into making every single thing delicious. Each dish was beautifully flavored and different to the others - nothing seemed mass produced.

Read moreThe most delicious and special place in Rome! There are lots of options!
Every bite there is more amazing And full of flavors than the other.
We ordered seitan, eggplant patties (the most delicious dish we have ever eaten! really), and unique risotto!
Everyone also got in the begginnig a meal of pink tomato sauce with Cashew cheese (For free. it was of course so tasty) And another large basket of breads.
really, high level of food. Also excellent wines and service, and in general the whole design of the restaurant.

Amazing - Edit
The atmosphere and flair of this restaurant is rather high class I would say. The food tastes really good although the portions are very small and it's still quite pricey (around 13 to 14€ per dish). You can get a whole vegan menu (50€) or just a single dish. The offer a lot of vegan options and the staff is very friendly.

Great staff, disappointing food - Edit
After reading such positive reviews of Il Margutta I was really excited to visit it. Unfortunately I felt it really wasn’t worth the money. The staff themselves were really lovely, the restaurant itself is nice, the food was well presented, and I enjoyed my dessert. The starters and main courses just weren’t up to scratch, my main complaint is that they were bland / under-seasoned. I was in a group of 4 people, eating various dishes, and we all found the same thing. Perhaps we just got unlucky - but I really felt the food should have tasted better for the money we paid for it.

Disappointing Sunday buffet - Edit
Been here many times before the pandemic and it was amazing. What a shame that the vegan food now is so limited and such a let down. Gorgeous surroundings but the (pricey) buffet options were a runny tasteless potato mash, plain sautéed spinach, plain basmati rice, reheated (dry) falafel, pumpkin/lentil soup…got excited seeing there was a seitan pasta but it was so bland. All the food was hand temperature and needed lots of seasoning. Pudding was nice but only 2 options of brownies and fruit salad. I really want to support this place as it’s veggie and vegan, not sure how much the pandemic has affected its resources but for the options and price, there are plenty of other places.
