Very unique 👌

These mochi have a very gooey texture.
Because they are made right after ordering they are served warm. The smokey taste with the sweet white miso is very yummy. They are served with tea. The old building with tatami mats is so peaceful. 😌

Very special Kyoto treat

I came back for more! It’s a short walk from Daitoku-ji Temple (zen gardens, less tourists) nearby, and a quick taxi from Kinkaju-ji Temple (gold-leaf temple). And it’s a 1000 year old shop, in the same family for 25 generations!

Confirmed vegan by a pamphlet listing ingredients and history that was provided with a take-out order.

Kazariya across the way, 600 years old, serves the same.

Pros: Delicious, Historic, Lovely antique setting

Traditional mochi

The grilled mochi pieces are stretchy, warm, soft and go very well with the sweet miso sauce.
The miso sause is a bit thin and slightly salty.
11 skewers for 600 ¥

It is custom to compare this shops aburi mochi with the one directly across the street.

Pros: Freshly grilled, Fast service, Tasty
