So many choices!

Very good restaurant : big buffet, vegan dishes are clearly marked, A-MA-ZING food. A bit pricey but that’s normal for Zurich.

Pros: Lot of options. , Food is really tasty.

Cons: Pricey.

Worth it

Zurich has a number of vegetarian buffets, but of the ones I tried, this one easily wins for sheer choice. Everything is labelled, and most items are vegan. While it's not cheap, the biggest problem is figuring out what you'd like to try, because you be able to sample everything. Make sure you leave room for dessert - the mango mousse and chocolate mousse are both outstanding.

Overall a great experience

Overwhelming selection that was generally well labeled for all allergy types and dietary preferences. The daal was definitely a highlight. As mentioned in many reviews, the price is definitely high for the amount of food you are receiving. Nevertheless, we left very satisfied.

Pros: Too many vegan options! , Large space with many tables, Takeaway is available

Cons: Staff barely spoke English (for questions), The space is loud , On the expensive side

Robbery

I don't know what else I expected but $33 for a small plate of food when you are serving yourself is a joke. You pay less than a third of that in Australia and at least you know it will taste nice.
The place has nice interior, a lot of variety of food, but you can't try all of it anyways because it will cost you a monthly salary. The mixed plate of food I had was nothing special in flavour either.
I had a 3 course dinner in Prague and it tasted amazing. It cost me $31.
Save your money.

Pros: Vegan Options

Cons: Expensive!

welcome to ZH, everything here is pricey just for the sake of location. NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO BUY (even if it's shoes it'll definitely cost you about 30+ than anywhere else. just saying?

Was okay.

Food was okay, were quite a few vegan options.. curries, pastas etc! Quite expensive in comparison to portion sizes. Was good to visit as a novelty.

Good food, not the best service.

The food was really good. We ate two courses at the a la carte place of the restaurant. What was not professional is that we ordered vegan and still got cheese and butter made from cows milk. also we had to wait a long time for the food even though it wasnt crowded, and had to listen to fights the staff had. Not very cozy.

Wow wow and wow

Ate here several times in the week we were staying in ZĂ¼rich. The place is simply a treasure. Too many gorgeous dishes to comment on. Fabulous buzz. Wished I could take it home to Sydney with me. In the event I bought a couple of Hiltl cookbooks. The sticky toffee pudding has become a firm favourite.

Food is good but greasy

Restaurant has buffet (as well as items to order); buffet has very tasty food, but much of it is very greasy--deep fried pakoras, samosas, spring rolls, etc.

Pros: all vegetarian, big vareity in cuisin

Cons: too greasy/oily/deep fried

You don't want to miss it

The oldest vegetarian restaurant.
Spacious, HUGE selection of vegan food, almost every dish can be veganized. Very attentive personnel.
This is the experience you don't want to miss.

Legendary

The oldest veggie restaurant in the world - so much of an institution here that they even have their own vegetarian deli. Great to see this place so popular (make a reservation). Yummy eats, but be prepared to pay.

Fab Restaurant

Had a lovely experience at this restaurant.
So much so that I made sure I returned the next day to their deli (around the corner from the main restaurant) in order to pick up some treats to take home.

Service in the restaurant was attentive. My boyfriend and I chose to order from the a la carte menu (the buffet looked like a bit of a shambles and we couldn’t be bothered to elbow our way in to get food). Really enjoyed my meal and felt that I could forgive the price as the quality was exceptional. As a vegan I was faced with almost too many dishes to choose from which is rare. Would return in a flash and would be happy to recommend to friends.

Mecca for Vegetarians

This is a really good vegetarian restaurant. The history is quite amazing--all vegetarian since 1898! I love how each buffet offering is clearly marked with every dietary concern. It's always nice to have confidence that your selection is really vegan. Delicious food, too. Still, it's not what I'd consider fine dining. That's ok, as I don't think that's the goal. I've been there several times, and enjoyed it each time, but it's crowded, impersonal, and mostly just good, basic, vegetarian fare. I always look forward to visiting, though. I'd go there any day.

Pros: Very diverse options, Everything on the buffet is well prepared, Clearly marked for dietary restrictions

Cons: Always, always, crowded, Some offerings prepared for quantity over quality

Must. Eat. There.

First of all, I felt honoured to be able to experience the oldest vegetarian restaurant.
After checking the huge buffet, I preferred to eat Ă  la carte. The first reason for this were too many guests bustling around, the other was that the food definitely looked great and appealing, I was in the mood for something special like Tartar or Cordon Bleu.

For vegan guests all vegan dishes are clearly marked, so it is quite easy to choose. I had the vegan Tartar as starter and intended to try the Cordon Bleu - but unfortunately HILTL does not use alternatives to cheese from milk yet.
So I opted for the Zuricher Geschnetzeltes made from mushrooms, which was a decent choice.
Surprise! Immediately after having finished my plate I was offered a (very welcome) second helping, which I consider as an outstanding service.

Why do I rate four stars only?
In my opinion (and meanwhile experienced vegan guest to many places) HILTL could take the menu and the buffet to the next level. Agreed - we are in the land of great cheese from milk... But that does not mean your guests have to comply with that or choose another option.

Meanwhile you guys could offer almost every dish in a vegan variant, eg use the great swiss brand vegusto as an alternative!

Dear HILTL-Staff, I hope you will read this and consider more vegan options for your customers. Stay ahead of the market! ;-)

Pros: huge buffet and Ă  la carte, swiss national dishes!, fast and friendly service

Cons: could be many more vegan options, fast-paced atmosphere

really good experience

I always wanted to go here, since this restaurant really is an institution.

The food is not cheap - but it never is in Switzerland. This is the only downside - otherwise I would come dailyđŸ˜‰

I had mushrooms with roesti, a typical Swiss dish but in a vegan version and it was really good.
For dessert I shared a sweet potato brownie with my boyfriend and we really enjoyed it. He said you couldn't tell this was a vegan one (he is an omnivore).

Pros: good vegan options, tasty food, nice waiters

Cons: expensive (but comparable to other upscale restaur

Really tasty food, lots of variety

Similar to Tibits, this is a pay by weight restaurant. There are loads of dishes - even though I took just a tiny bit of each of the ones I wanted to try, I still ended up with a huge plate! All if it was delicious, and there were lots of lovely desserts and drinks as well.

Expensive but worth it

I've been to Zurich twice and went to Hilt both time. I'll keep coming back even is the prices are ridiculously high (do not look at how much it is in Canadian dollars or you'll cry) because the food is worth it. You wouldn't think a buffet can be as tasty as this. I'm glad I live on another continent, it's gonna keep my wallet safe for a bit. ;)

Pros: Great food

Cons: Expensive

Amazing food but very expensive

There is so much variety for vegans and all the dishes are marked with symbols showing whether it's vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free etc.
There are cold and warm dishes, salads and desserts.
The food is amazing, a heaven for vegetarians and vegans.
But it's super expensive (like most restaurants in Zurich.)

Pros: food is amazing

Cons: very expensive

High quality vegan-friendly grub

This restaurant is something of an institution in Zurich and I was excited to visit after hearing great reviews from locals. It certainly did not disappoint! Extensive high quality buffet with many vegan items, I was spoiled for choice. Abundance of dessert items too - despite being incredibly full I still managed to wolf plenty of pudding down. Really nice interior and attentive staff, would definitely return.

Pros: Wide range of vegan options, Lovely atmosphere

Cons: Very busy

close to perfection

I wish I could have such a restaurant like this in my city. The buffet is delicious and huge - the desert buffet is just awesome. We had dinner a la cart tonight and it was outstanding like the service and the lovely staff. Warmly raccomand this Hiltl- and stay after dinner for a dance at the Hiltl club

Pros: atmosphere, staff, service , food, drinks , location

Great buffet!

We were very happy about the amazing choice, even for me as a vegan (although we didn't have time for a dessert, so not sure about them). If you love the idea of having lots of different things then this place is for you. However, it's not a "cosy" restaurant if that's what you're after - too big and open plan.

Pros: Wide range, Quick if you're in a hurry!

Cons: Could have vegan lasagnas etc

Big, busy, but with great vegetarian dishes

One of the best places to take a non-vege friend to. :) The dishes perfectly imitate their meat versions and they're truly delicious!
On the other side, there could be be more vegan options and the atmosphere is a bit too chaotic and busy to enjoy your meal to the fullest. Still, much worth visiting!

Cons: Could have more vegan options

Not to be missed!

I had heard a lot about the legendary Hiltl and was however super pleasantly surprised! Went there with 2 omnivores and all three of us were totally blown away by their wonderful buffet, featuring so many "oh I must try this"!
Paying per weight makes sense, people taste and enjoy.

Oh and a LOT of the dishes are vegan, including amazing desserts!
