Note May 2020: open for takeaway and outdoor dining, see Facebook page for weekly hours. Open Tue-Fri 12:00-22:00, Sat 11:00-22:00, Sun 11:00-17:00.
Kitchen closes between 4-6pm.

Summer evenings are one of the most beautiful aspects of all creation. The tension of the day's heat is finally released and our surroundings are imbued with a peachy golden hue, cooled by pale blue. Their beauty is in part amplified by their scarcity; we only have a certain number per year, we only have a certain number of years to our life. Parks are among the best places to enjoy them since they are among the most beautiful forms of art , something beyond architecture and gardening, looking back to the pastoral past and forward to the time it's no longer a necessity and in this sense they aim to embody both the idyll and the ideal. This marriage of man and nature is bound by the band of summer evening light.

On the second day I had already had two excellent meals and was planning on abstaining from a third but I thought 'I don't know when I'll be back here, I should take advantage of all its pleasures while I can', so before my sunset plans I made my way briskly to HappenPappen (what on earth is that meant to mean?) since it by all appearances it may be among the city's greater strengths. Its fare seems to be something between health food and fast food, between a café and a restaurant, something I'm fairly partial to and which one would think would be perfect for a quick meal when one wants to squeeze as much as possible out of their time.
Upon arrival I ordered a meal and was served a drink, provided with a knife, fork, serviette. I read and waited for this treasure to arrive. It was quite some time. In fact I was reading much more than I intended to. I didn't want to finish my book in those conditions so I switched to something else and read too much of that. I waited. The ice cubes melted into the drink. Others around me recieved their orders, were they before or after me? I don't know, I'm not minding them.
Half an hour, forty five minutes. Should I have asked? Probably, but it's not my job and I don't want to be a pain. Every time the bell in the kitchen rang I thought surely this time it must be mine. It wasn't. It's a quiche, how long can it take? It's not as though I'm not sitting a few feet away from the counter, facing it in fact, reading instead of eating.
After one last bell, not mine, I got up and left. As I had waited I kept looking out at the light thinking 'it's still good, there's still time'. By the time I left there wasn't. I caught the last drops from the train.

About an hour, I think. Definitely more than 45 minutes. In retrospect I can see that it's foolish for me to have waited that long without saying anything, but I was sitting directly between the counter and the door and I didn't want to pester them. Maybe I'm too meek or neurotic, take your pick. But the point is that by the time you need to ask if your food will be coming soon 'soon' has already become 'too late'. Months later and I'm still upset about it.

Leider deckt sich das mit einer früheren Erfahrung; wir wollten dem Happenpappen eine zweite Chance geben.
Als wir nachfragen kam das Essen umgehend Zufall? Nach einem neuen Getränk (das natürlich inzwischen leer war) wurde nicht gefragt.
Das Essen war gut - aber nicht so toll, wie man das angesichts der Rezensionen hier denken könnte.
Sitzen kann man weder drinnen noch draußen gut. Innen sitzt man im Dunst (Knoblauch!), draußen brausen die Autos vorbei.
Schade.

There is a large selection of different burgers. The burgers are large and very tasty. The cheese potatoes were a good side dish. We also really liked the atmosphere and friendly staff.

We went during lunch and ordered the yellow curry and the grilled cheese sandwich tomato soup combo. The curry and the soup were excellent. I disliked the mustard in the sandwich, but that is just my personal opinion. The vibe was great, service was friendly and our food was ready quite fast. The restaurant's inside was quite hot due to no air conditioning.

Good options. Price not totally crazy. A healthier choice compared to fast food. Friendly and helpful service. Food came within 10-15 minutes. Amazing taste. I had the Sriracha Burger with Baked Potatoes. Highly recommend.

The food tasted homemade and wasn’t greasy, as burgers often tend to be. Burgers and side dishes had to be ordered separately, which naturally drives up the total price. The service initially came across as warm and friendly. However, the process was somewhat uncoordinated — we received our food before the drinks. The waiting time for the food was around 35 minutes. If you visit the restaurant during peak hours, you should definitely plan for a longer stay.
Read moreUnfortunately, our burger was served without the extra topping we had ordered (and paid for). It wasn’t a big issue for me, so I didn’t feel the need to send the food back. We pointed it out to the waitress several times, especially before paying, and she did apologize.
What we found disrespectful, however, was that the missing topping still appeared on the bill — something we only noticed when reviewing it. When we brought it up again, the waitress deliberately turned her back on us, pretending to be busy with something else, and seemed indifferent. That left a disappointing impression.

Small restaurant just across the St. Pauli bunker. The sign outside is very small so you might not see it from distance.
Read moreWe liked the option to turn a burger into a small or large bowl and combine it with potatoes with sauce. The patty is sliced in pieces - so it has nothing to anymore with a burger 🍔 Our bowls were delicious, the cheesecake was disappointing - dry and a strange taste.
5 stars though for the concept and vegan passion of the owner.
