Gave us pork when we ordered veggie - Edit
Not going back. We ordered veggie dumplings to go and ended up with a disgusting mouth full of pork. We asked multiple times to make sure everything was dairy free, not enough awareness as to ingredients for staff to answer confidently. Nobody in our party of 4 was happy with the meal.

Ordered "Veggie" Potstickers That Had Meat In Them - Edit
Today I had a super negative and odd experience at Hap. They were one of the food vendors at the Art in the Pearl pop-up event this weekend. I ordered the veggie potstickers for $10 from them. As I was ordering, I noticed an empty frozen potsticker bag in the trash (like the one in my picture), which means that they were clearly just heating up frozen premade potstickers even though their signage claimed their dumplings were "made fresh from scratch daily." That was the first red flag I guess.
Read moreWhen I got my food, as soon as I took the first bite I could immediately tell by the taste, texture, and appearance that there was meat in these potstickers. It tasted and looked like pork, even though the only other potsticker flavor available was chicken. I assumed they made a mistake and went back and told them I got the wrong one and mine had meat in it. This is when things got weird.
The young man calling out the orders told me it was tofu that I was seeing. I questioned this and he called the lady who was running the cashier over and she confirmed and said it is just tofu. I walked away wanting to believe them but my husband and I sort of disected one of the potstickers and we could just tell that it was not tofu. We eat and cook with tofu all the time and it was very obvious that it was meat. So I went back a second time and told them that this isn't tofu. The same two workers tried to tell me that yes it was, but I didn't believe them so they called over one of the cooks. He came over and tried very hard to explain to me how it is indeed tofu. He said it is a special kind of tofu. But I knew it wasn't. Finally he could tell I wasn't buying his explanation and he offered to make me tofu salad rolls. I didn't want to cause them a ton of trouble so I just said yes. I soon regretted this as the salad rolls were terrible (and I usually love salad rolls). I wish I had just asked for a refund.
Anyway, super odd experience. Seems illegal... I emailed them afterwards to re-explain what happened and ask for a refund. But just want others to be aware...

Good Concept - Needs Work - Edit
Great idea to have healthier non fried Asian offerings. However, it took a lot of coaxing to get them to tell me what I could eat that would be vegan, they were not ready with simple confident answers. And they use more plastic for dine in than any restaurant I have ever eaten at. Every individual dish and side dish comes in a rigid plastic takeout container. It is quite excessive. They need to use plates and bowls and wash some dishes.

Cons: They use more plastic than a small country , The staff aren’t ready to explain what is vegan

Great option for Veggie Dim Sum - Edit
This was my third visit to Hap Healthy Steam Cuisine. My first visit was with about 10 people from one of our local Vegan Meetup groups. They were incredibly accommodating on the first visit. The latest was no different. I love the Veggie Steam Bun Wraps and the Sweet Chili Wontons. They also have a veggie Shumai and several other items on their vegetarian menu. I spoke with the owner and confirmed that their vegetarian items are vegan or can be made vegan. The hoisin sauce in the Steam Buns is vegan. He told me that he understood what it means to be vegan. He said two of his cooks prepare vegan meals for two local Buddhist temples. The restaurant was clean, masking was strictly followed and the staff were incredibly friendly.

Pros: Separate Vegetarian/Vegan Menu, Great food, Clean and Friendly environment

No vegan options - Edit
I just walked in to buy lunch and when I asked what vegan options they had. The young woman kept turning away from me to look at the menu and was talking quietly with a mask on, so I couldn’t understand a word she was saying.

Great food - Edit
I got a bahn mi and bao! Both with shredded tofu. Food was super good and the staff was really helpful in making sure it was vegan for me. Good sized veggie menu!
