awesome!

I go here all the team. the steamboat soup is a must have! The fried mitake mushrooms are insane. Love the atmosphere, you have to take off your shoes. The pear juice is great. The fried mushrooms are by far my favorite. It’s our 4th time going and we’ll be back again!

A must when in NYC

We went there for a New Years Eve dinner. The food was very tasty and spicy, the atmosphere in the restaurant was very nice and calm. The staff is super nice, attentive and friendly. We expected it to be very pricey but actually, it was OK and the food is so great and of high quality, it's justified in my opinion.
Perfect place to visit with omnivores and to have a fancy celebration dinner.
I did not like the fact that we had to take off our shoes though, as I noticed halfway through our meal that there was some rice on the floor by our table sticking to my socks... lol

Pros: Great and tasty food, friendly staff, Nice Atmosphere

Cons: Have to take shoes off

Huge menu, great setting, pricey

The ambiance is excellent. We ordered a wide variety of foods. Although the food was overall good, I was expecting great. It was not great. I am being generous with a 4-star review.

My biggest complaint is that the spicy dishes were not spicy (Sesame Leaf Tofu Patties, Kimchi Mushroom Pancakes, Spicy Grilled Todok). The appetizers were pricey and portion size was small. We ordered 4 of them to share, it was not enough for our group of 5. Even if we ordered 5 apps, it still would not have been enough. The Combination Rolls all needed more flavor.

Our main meals were hit-or-miss. The Crispy Mushrooms with Sweet/Sour sauce tasted like ketchup. The Spicy Grilled Todok wasn't spicy. The Mushroom Sizzler and the Hangawi Vegetable wrap were both very tasty.

Dessert came in big portions and were all great.

I *might* consider going back and trying other items because their menu is huge and the ambiance is really great. And I love supporting a vegan restaurant.

Pros: Huge menu, Great Ambiance

Cons: Value, Spicy not spicy

Excellent but expensive

Verry good and original all vegan food. The waiter stressed us a bit to choose our order without helping. We didn't look at the prices, so we jumped when the check came. Knowing it, it's still worthing to go.

Pros: Beautifull place.

Cons: Expensive

A favorite place in NYC

This is an elegant Korean restaurant, located in NYC's Koreatown (near Penn Station and Herald Square) The food is tasty, but pricey (except for some lunch specials, which you can get for around $15 if you don't order drinks or desert), and this is not a place for people who are in a rush. Those who want a more relaxed setting might prefer the nearby sister restaurant, Franchia. But for special occasions, this place is among the best.

Delicious vegan Korean food

Vegan Korean food?! Sign me up! I made a reservation the day before so I was seated right when I arrived. This restaurant requires you to take off your shoes just keep that in mind if you’re not comfortable with exposing your feet.

I ordered two porridge’s (pumpkin, spinach and corn), tofu kimchi hot pot and noodles with vegetables all off of their lunch menu. I believe that everything is fairly priced because the portions are decent sized. I enjoyed everything that I ordered off the menu, as everything was very flavorful and great.

Service was also quick, and I had no issues getting the servers attention. If I’m ever back in NYC, I would come back and try the other items on their menu.

Pros: Ambiance , Menu , Service

Cons: Taking shoes off (if you don’t have socks on)

A must if you visit NYC!

My boyfriend and I were there about a year ago and first fell in love with the decor and ambiance. Beware it's a no shoes policy lol. You immediately feel relaxed going in. We had many dumplings and hearty soup. It was a lovely experience I highly recommend!

Great Korean experience

The whole menu is vegan! And most of the dishes are traditional Korean. Very nice dining area and staff. Great food. A must experience. Spent $40 per person with a shared appetiser, 2 entrees, and 2 non alcoholic drinks, worth it.

Creative with healthy options

The menu is a bit overwhelming if you aren't very familiar with Korean food, but our server was very helpful recommending dishes that aren't deep fried or heavy on oil. The results were incredible. We loved the Emperor's Rolls which consists of about eight different shredded vegetables that you hand roll into a fresh little pancake. Super yummy and fun! The Spicy Baby Dumplings were out of this world. Like a symphony of flavor for your taste buds! For our mains, we opted for Tofu with Mixed Vegetables because we wanted some greens, and requested sauteed rather than deep fried tofu. Very flavorful but not as exciting as the other dishes. Finally, the Organic Zen Bibimbap came out sizzling in an iron bowl and was super delicious, especially paired with kimchee. Love this place!

Great vegan Korean food

This place is amazing. Every time I come here the food is just as good. And the service is very friendly and very good.

I've usually gone with groups, and shared, and I've not yet experienced a dish that wasn't really good.

I've never made reservations, and I've always managed to get seated, but it would be helpful to make reservations, since it's always crowded.

Pros: really good vegan food, really good service

it is wonderful.

The atmosphere is fantastic. It is a tranquil spot in the middle of a chaotic city. The food is fresh ( the kitchen asked me to switch dishes one day because they thought the dandelion greens they had left were a little beat up), and flavorful. I highly recommend this place. They have a great tea selection but you can also get Soju.
You have to take your shoes off in the restaurant so be prepared for that.

Superb!

I don’t think I can say something that hasn’t already been said about how amazing Hangawi is. This place takes you on a journey, both culinary and physical. As soon as you enter you are transported to another place where all that exists is peace, good food, and the people you’re sharing your meal with.
The staff, all thematically outfitted, is friendly and happy to offer recommendations. Some of my favorite dishes include the bamboo rice, the stuffed shiitake mushrooms, the Hangawi vegetable and mushroom wrap, the cheesecake with ice cream, and the blueberry coconut cake.
This place is simply magical. You cannot miss it if you find yourself in NYC.

Pros: Amazing food , Magical ambiance , Friendly Staff

my new favorite restaurant in all of new york!!!!

this place blew my mind! i went to school in seoul and this place is the real deal. the atmosphere, the service, the food, the fact that your shoes magically appear when you’re ready to leave...but the food!!! pure heaven! I recommend the mongolian hot pot with multi grain rice (the korean purple rice), and the silk tofu soup appetizer. the dumplings are good but too expensive for just four so don’t bother. but you NEED to order the shissandra chinesis tea. NEED to! it was delicious and apparently it’s amazing for your health. everything is vegan! reservations are a must! please go!!

Pros: shissandra chinesis tea!, atmosphere , the food!!!!

Cons: expensive

Excellent Vegan Dates and Celebrations

This place is In the heart of Koreatown (i.e., catering to a discerning audience of Korean food lovers). The dishes are delicious and based on authentic Korean staple dishes, many of which were traditionally vegan. Great service, zen-fun atmosphere, good selection of beverages, and delicious food.

A scam!

The food is like Panda express, service is gimmicky. Serves fat, oily, fast-food style Asian dishes in the mask of a healthy high end vegan food. It's not even a cultural experience, not worth the price.

Pros: at least they're vegan

Cons: oily, fat, fast-food style food, Not tasty. , Gimmicky

Lovely Spot for a fancy dinner

A lovely place with mood lighting ambience. Shoes off at the door and we are seated on the floor with leg space under croft. We opted for the tasting option which was like a degustation. A great variety of options, some healthy some fried deliciousness, overall balance and very full at the end.

Pros: Balanced food options - healthy/fried, Great Atmosphere, Lovely service

Cons: Walk ins could mean a long wait, A bit pricey

High-end, vegan, delicious

Even though the menu and website say vegetarian, this restaurant is vegan. I clarified with the staff before ordering.

Overall:
Nice experience. The ambiance was pleasant. Decor felt authentic. Shoes off and sitting low was unique and fun.

Staff:
Nice and helpful. They understood the food and were able to answer our questions. They were well trained and consistent. The food came out in a nice order and we didn’t feel rushed.

Food:
We started with the Broccoli Kimchee Salad. Very nice. Spicy by not overwhelming. The veggies were fresh and healthy. We also had Kabocha Pancakes (a.k.a. pajeun). Perfectly done with a nice variety of sauces.

As a main course, I had the Avocado Bibimbap in a Stone Bowl (a.k.a. dolsot). To add more spice, I asked for gochujang sauce. The rice on the edges were crispy and the avocado was perfectly ripe. My wife got the Vegetable Dumpling Soup (a.k.a. manduguk). It came very hot and nicely flavored. The dumplings were not overcooked.

I should also mention, we liked how the food was served and presented. Very elegant.

Pros: Ambiance is elegant, Food is well prepared, Staff is very professional and helpful

Cons: Make it clear that it's vegan

Wouldn't come back

We had high hopes for this place.
It's a Korean restaurant in Midtown Manhattan. We found the atmosphere of the place quite nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
We chose to order the lunch menu ($25) that included : 1) salad of the week, 2) dumplings, 3) rice bowl w/ vegetables and 4) weekly desert (chocolate ice cream).
The portions were okay and the food was overall good. The rice bowl needed more flavour, but everything else tasted good.
However this is when the problems started. A table of two ladies just next to us felt sick after the meal and threw up (the had had the lunch menu as well). It didn't hit us that hard but after leaving the place and for next hours we didn't feel very good either.
Maybe it was just bad luck but I don't think i'll be eating here again.

Pros: atmosphere, service

Cons: not sure about food quality/hygiene, pricy
