AMAZING food, unique dining experience - Edit
Some of the most unique and tasty vegan food I've ever had. Loves the atmosphere as well with the recessed seating. Staff was kind and attentive. Definitely a bit more on the expensive side but worth it to try at least once. Would definitely recommend.

I'm happy that I don't live close this restaurant because I would go every day and need a new income.

A little pricey but delicious food! - Edit
I love the ambiance of this place! You take off your shoes when you enter and the staff puts them away. You sit at tables with an underground cubby for your legs. So cute! You can also sit cross-legged at your table. The noise level on this Saturday night was pretty standard for any restaurant but soft, lilting music played in the background.
Read moreThe vegan food was epic! 👏👏😍 There were so many choices on the menu that I’m going to have to come back ❤️ We got the tofu steak, combination kimbap, and acorn noodles 🙌 The noodles were pricey for the serving size but the two mains were terrific! The sauces were rich and complex. This is a great place to celebrate and have a slightly upscale dinner✨ Three people got birthday serenades and free desserts when I went lol.
Another nice thing is that this place closes later than other restaurants. Email them to make a reservation and don't be more than 10 minutes late. This place is always busy lol. We ate on a Saturday at 9 pm and it was packed. Great experience! #veganfood #veganrestaurants #vegannyc
Pros: Delicious food, Unique ambience, Courteous staff
Cons: Sometime small portions, Pricey, A little noisy but expected when it's packed

No other place in NYC - Edit
Hangawi is like no other place I’ve been to yet in NYC with dark wood paneling and recessed tables. You’re transported to a place and time reflected in the attentive service, the decor, and the food.
Read moreFeaturing an all-vegan, Korean-inspired modern menu (including their wines), the seasonal app/entree/dessert prix fixe is the way to go. Standouts from their winter menu include:
- Kimchi hotpot and trio roots kimbap
- Stuffed eggplant in chili sauce (a personal favorite, so well-cooked and flavored)
- Red beans and ice cream rhapsody
Reservations recommended. Only done by email with very prompt and courteous responses.
For the tables, you have to lower yourself into the seats, and with the narrow space, can be challenging for those with mobility issues. Regular tables are available. You’ll be asked to remove your shoes at the entrance, placed on a shelf, and laid out ready without prompting on your way out. What a way to leave a lasting impression.

Favorite restaurant to visit in New York - Edit
I had not been here in over a decade and it was equally fabulously delicious as I remembered it. Such great service, fun experience and delicious food. Our table of four, each ordered something completely different and we all loved our appetizers, entrees and desserts.

Everting here is vegan :) - Edit
I miss Korean food so so so much, Korean food used to be my favorite before I went vegan , haven’t had a chance to try Korean food ever since I went vegan , love everything here😄the chair and heater on the ground totally reminds me of japan, the first time I brought my friend to a Korean restaurant I wasn’t vegan at the time, he kinda get scared at his first Korean restaurant experience so he was hesitate when I invite him again to a Korean restaurant, but after I convinced that it’s a vegan restaurant it’s totally different, he tried again and he said he loves it and would totally come back again😄hurrah

From the moment you walk in you know this is going to be more than dinner.. a spiritual experience is to say the least. As you take off your shoes at the door and are walked to your table where you sit on the floor your experience begins..we enjoyed the bulgogi bites, the sushi roll, Spivey kimchi tofu hot pot, and the spicy rice cakes… you really can’t go wrong with anything you order.

Yummy food and amazing ambiance! - Edit
Do not be put off by having to remove your shoes!! The process is really easy and your table has a heated floor for your feet. You also don't need to sit cross-legged, there's a hole under the table where you'll put your feet and sit like you were sitting in a chair with no back.
Read moreThe food is really tasty, prices are a bit on the high side but you're also paying for a nice experience and service. I came here with three non-vegans and they also really enjoyed the food.

Amazing! - Edit
So delicious. We had the spicy baby dumplings, bulgogi bites, todok stone bowl rice, and the tofu steak. The dumplings and bites were amazing appetizers. The tofu steak was also delicious. The todok bowl was good but in my opinion wasn’t as delicious and saucy as the steak. Would so come back, everything on the menu sounded amazing. The milky rice wine was very nice as well. Would have been nicer to sit in the main area instead of the side.

Such a lovely dining experience - Edit
The whole experience was positive — from the moment we had to take our shoes off at the door and kneel in front of the table to the moment they brought out our meals in stone bowls and mixed them in front of us to the moment we left. The food was delicious too.

Very Good, But Not Perfect - Edit
The atmosphere and service were perfect. The dishes were a mix, the skinless vegetable dumplings were amazing, and their dipping sauce was what dreams are for. The mini tofu sticky balls were just okay, to me they did not have the richness in flavor as the first appetizer.
Read moreThe GF stone bowl was okay, but I have had way better before.
The eggplant with kimchi in a brown sauce was perfect. The texture of the eggplant was the best I remember having anywhere.
To me the price seemed a bit high for the portion size, but it is a bit more upscale than other places and that often means small portions.
Pros: Atmosphere, Service
Cons: Portion Size

Truly wonderful experience - Edit
They have a gf menu, complete with appies, mains, salads and desserts.
Read moreI tried the Korean Wine Sampler and really enjoyed all three wines. I thought I'd like the black raspberry the most, but I actually enjoyed the makgeolli and herb more (liked them equal).
We tried the mini tofu balls and the skinless dumplings. I liked both of these about the same, they were both good but neither blew me out of the water.
The vegetable stone wall bow was OK. I didn't really fee it was overly flavourful but it was nice and balanced and not greasey or heavy.
We also tried the spicy eggplant and kimchi. This one was absolutely amazing. It was so so so good! Highly recommend.
For dessert I tried the mochi ice cream platter. On the menu it said it came with a passion fruit, but when it arrived it had different flavours.
It was still good, but I likely would have skipped dessert if I'd known it wasn't going to have a passion fruit flavour.
The service was excellent. The atmosphere amazing. Food was very good!

Reservation Required - Edit
Hungry vegans wandering around Mahattan should be aware if you don't have a reservation you may be turned away. Even as a single diner they turned me away. So, it's that kind of place, which I'm sure is great as it looks wonderful. Just don't go there while "hangry" as I did looking to be served at all costs. 😄 Will try again some other time as the food looks great, from the menu.

The food was so delicious and very unique. We had the root vegetable rice hot pot and a really yummy mixed mushroom dish. They were both great. Dumpling appetizer and ice cream with red beans for dessert were also excellent. The decor is fun as you sit on the floor on a pillow. Service was very attentive.
