Awesome Diner in GR

What is this restaurant this week? If you’re familiar with Wealthy street you may know this restaurant by a different name. Just 3 years ago it was a different diner, than it was converted into a pizza restaurant, and now it is a diner again. Thankfully, I can attest that in comparing all of the previous restaurants together, this iteration is the best time line.

Good Truckin’ Diner balances perfectly the mood of a diner with the cleanliness of a yuppie. The vegan section is solid and holds an entire segment of their menu. We had the vegan caramel waffle and the Naughty by Nature vegan burrito. The Waffle was crisp on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside to a point that would make Waffle House proud. The caramel provided a sweet kick in the tooth that stood on its own — I would not recommend any addition maple syrup for the goodness of your health.

The Naughty by Nature provided the savory to our sweet. The mushroom gravy that lapped up the burrito was salty and umami. Honestly, a great vegan topping. Unfortunately, the inside was a tad disappointing. The tofu was fine. It just tasted like it was made by a person who has never eaten a morsel of tofu. There was no seasoning to it at all. Some nutritional yeast and Himalayan salt would good a long way to hoist this experience.

To speak more optimistically, their potatoes are phenomenal. I love potatoes in any form, but this form has them nailed. I could not stop eating them.

The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They do a great job making you feel welcomed.

Overall, it’s a great restaurant that I want to return to to try more from their vegan menu, and the fact that they have a vegan section deserves all my praise. I hope they learn how to cook tofu to make it more palatable for fence sitters when it comes to trying vegan food. I would highly recommend Good Truckin’ Diner. #Veganuary
