Great neighborhood spot (updated)

While the vegan options on their menu aren’t extensive, they are good — and they usually have 1-2 vegan cookies and scones available. Warm atmosphere and very family friendly.

Update Jan 2025: They have a vegan breakfast burrito and vegan burger on the list now. The breakfast burrito is great; I believe they use Just Egg. The burger is on a ciabatta bun (last I had it) and wasn’t too exciting, but the option is nice.

Pros: Availability of baked goods, Atmosphere

Cons: Burger is so-so

In Praise Of The OG VG, The Tofu Scramble

Some places feel warm and welcoming, inviting the desire to spend some time in what seems like an open embrace. Gigi's is one. It's both intimate and spacious, the sort of space that feels alright when you're sleepy and even better when the coffee kicks in. The menu is small and not entirely vegan, but the options are satisfying. When I wound up here a few weeks ago I vaguely remembered once having a tofu scramble here. It wasn't on the menu and I had to ask, but it was no problem to make one. I've been a vegan for a long time and I remember (back in my day....) the years before Impossible & fake meats ruled. Back then, being presented with a tofu scramble felt like seeing a triple rainbow. I love the new vegan world but a well made tofu scramble still satisfies in a special way. This one is a curry scramble, ample portions of well seasoned tofu and vegetables, with locally baked bread toasted on the side. Add a coffee (the coffee is excellent, with oat milk available) and perhaps a vegan cookie (delicious, I think it involved olive oil and pecans) and life's alright. The art is also a plus. There's many pieces on the wall, some powerful and some surreal or funny. The children's art also possesses the effortless surrealism, humor and heart we have while young. It's the sort of place where you feel like you could only be on this block in this city. I do wish it were all vegan (of course I do) but for what it is, it's lovely.

Pros: Curry Tofu Scramble, Calm but Vibrant atmosphere w/ Art , Vegan Cookies & Oat Milk for Coffee

Cons: Not Entirely Vegan
