Like a moth to a flame, each month I am inexorably drawn to at least one branch of this consistently excellent chain to discover what plant-based special they have on offer – usually they are as ludicrously named as they are delicious. On this occasion, I thought I had a fighting chance. Doppia Arachide Salata – peanut gelato garnished with salted peanuts – seemed manageable enough. Starting out confidently, I managed the first word flawlessly, but pride does indeed come before a fall, and my exuberance got the better of me. By the second syllable of the following word, I was spouting gibberish, though I did just about enough to convey to the rather bemused, yet very understanding, server what I wanted.
Suitably embarrassed once again, I shuffled off with my large tub in hand, hoping that it would be worth the effort of the preceding exchange. My, how it was. It was so good, in fact, that I’d happily have suffered all the ignominy twice over – it was definitely up there with one of the best creations that they have put out.
It hardly needs saying, but I know that I’ll be stopping by here again in the future – perhaps in the meantime I’ll brush up on my Italian.
