Amazing place for a good meal

Food is 5 stars, especially the cauliflower wings and the mushroom is exceptional!
Highly recommend

Beautiful food & atmosphere

First time visiting Food For Friends and it beat all expectations! The chef has recently updated the menu - everything was so fresh with incredible flavours. The staff were so lovely and really made the meal special. My mum said the Stuffed Portobello Mushroom was the best thing she’s eaten in 8 years of vegetarianism (mildly offended it wasn’t my cooking, but well done Food For Friends, you win 😂).
As such a long-standing part of the veggie community in Brighton, I truly believe this is a must-visit if in the city 🌱 We’ll be back!

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere and staff, Fresh, flavourful, great vegan & GF options

Used to be so lovely

Unfortunately it seems to have gone downhill! I visited multiple times years ago and always found the food so tasty and service great. Fast forward 5 years or so, I’ve been twice in the past 6 months and unfortunately both times felt the food was a bit bland, service was ok. Seems like it’s in need of a refresh these days😒

Lovely atmosphere, tasty dishes but rather pricey!

My husband and I ate dinner here because it looked so cosy and was in a great location. They accommodated us arriving 45 minutes early, and we had the table we eyed-up, in the window. We were pretty hungry, so ordered drinks and starters within a few minutes of being seated. The starters arrived swiftly: crispy tofu (absolutely delicious- my husband usually hates tofu, but said they were the best he'd ever tried!) and olives (fresh and flavoursome). Unfortunately our drinks took ages (> 20 mins) to arrive and we had to ask for them twice. They were apologetic and gave us some more olives, on the house.
Main courses (linguine and Thai noodles salad) were both good quality and decent portions. We enjoyed everything and felt so full, we couldn't manage dessert! It's a shame they charge so much for the drinks (£11 large wine and £9 prosecco) and also added on 12.5% service charge. It made for a rather expensive Thursday evening!

Pros: Atmospheric lighting and decor, Crispy tofu with chilli sauce, Friendly staff

Cons: Price of drinks , Time it took to receive drinks

Ok food and slow service

Visited on a busy Saturday evening, we had booked well in advance and took a very long time to be seated or served. Food was ok but quite simple and nothing with the wow factor. We thought it was quite expensive for what we had.

In need of a little love perhaps

I was really looking forward to eating here as I have walked by many times. It is a great location and the fact it has been in business for such a long time. However it proved to be a disappointment, perhaps because I had such high expectations. I had the vegan wellington roast which looked impressive but was just ok. The nice luscombe drinks on the menu were not available. I think because it is solely vegan/vegetarian restaurant I expected the best vegn/veggie food and not just the average vegan/veggie add on menus at other restaurants.

Pros: Great location, Externally nice looking, Vegan/veggie

Cons: Not great interior, Average food but not average prices, It feels like it has lost it’s mojo

Sadly gone downhill

Three of us were served the worst almost inedible burgers with fries. The burger was like a piece of leather very hard to eat or cut and tasteless! For £18 . Macdonalds does a lot better for a lot less . Never again. Also limited choices if you can’t have soya it was burgers an some Indian dish whic a Freind also found unappetising!

Pros: There was a nice mayonnaise sauce , The chips were nice just like macdonaldsk

Cons: Limited menu for vegans, Limited menu for soya allergy, Burgers hard and dry. Might have been leftovers

Incredible food

We had an amazing lunch at Food for Friends. Even though it's a veggie restaurant, most of their menu is vegan, and gluten free options are clearly marked too. Our favourite dish was the Celeriac Wellington, but everything we tried was delicious. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating of our baby. Excited to come back!

Really good food

A nice choice of options for each course. Refreshingly only the non-vegan options are denoted, if a little confusing to start with!

The only slightly annoying thing was being charged the same for the Sunday roast although they had to leave the Yorkshire pudding off to make it vegan. A discount would have seemed logical, or perhaps charging less and the Yorkshire pudding being an extra, for those who want them.

Best meal I've ever had

I absolutely cannot believe the quality of food that me and my friend got here, especially as it was so reasonably priced. The harissa carrots were to die for, and the desserts? Life changing.

Outstanding

Easily in the top five best meals I’ve ever had. The food was amazing, the staff were lovely, and the atmosphere was great. I can’t fault anything about this place. I’m so looking forward to going back to Brighton just so I can go back here. We bought a bunch of different starters, mains and desserts, and then shared them all together as a family. So that we could all try a bit of everything. There wasn’t one thing any of us didn’t like.

Delicious food

Took my partner here for a birthday meal and the food certainly lived up to expectations. The menu is almost all vegan (they should just go fully vegan!) and though it is quite a small menu, everything we tried was delicious. This was my second visit and in my opinion, the Small Plates are the most interesting so I recommend getting a few of these with some sides and sharing it all!

Pros: Gorgeous food, Friendly staff

Cons: Menus are printed way too small!, Music playlist was a bit naff

Bit expensive but worth it

The presentation and taste of this food was 🤌 everything was absolutely delicious. Two of us had a main and desert each - it came to £60 with us drinking tap water, so not cheap but it is a really lovely place.

Perfect !

Lovely setting …. Cosy but felt special for an evening meal . Good lighting , lots of plants , white linen tablecloths all added to the ambience !
Good service and a choice of vegan options amongst those with cheese ! Food had lots of layers of taste and beautifully presented .
Good selection of organic wines .
( only downside was the toilets which could do with more regular checks but won’t let that spoil a lovely experience . Would definitely recommend.)

Pros: Ambience , Vegan choices , Taste and presentation

Cons: Toilets , Some choices already gone by 8pm

absolutely love this place

I’ve been to food for friends multiple times now, normally for special occasions! The menu is basically 95% vegan and It’s so great to go to a restaurant where i’m able to eat most of the menu, because i’m vegan, but also because my allergies restrict my options even more. I went for my mums birthday and i got a delicious pasta dish with a pesto garlic bread to start. The one thing is would say is that they change their menu often and the second time i went they didn’t have the dessert available that i loved the first time i went.

Delicious Dinner

Food for Friends is probably my favourite restaurant in Brighton. The menu is 95% vegan and they change it frequently (general exception being a cheese course). I had mushroom bao buns and a Thai tofu salad, followed by creme brulee. Service was sensitive and not rushed, nor were they too busy. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy. The food was delicious, flavours well-balanced and presented beautifully.

Good Variety and Options

Food was lovely and our waiter Daisy was friendly and helpful in describing menu items. Food was a little slow but nothing to really complain about as it was a busy Saturday! Would definitely come back :)

Such a great opportunity to eat really good fresh and interesting food in a lovely setting. Only let down was service was patchy and staff although friendly didn’t know much about food or wine.

Pros: Lots of delicious vegan options , Fresh and diverse dishes, Lovely location and decor, outdoor seating

Cons: Service was inexperienced

Romantic evening

Was a little anxious after reading some of the reviews on here and as the menu didn't excite me initially but really wanted to give this a go as only seem to eat junk food out or Indian food. Well I was impressed anyway. Yes it wasn't exotic it was Bread, olives, pasta that we had but the service was first rate as were the flavours and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The price would prevent me doing it often though.

Pros: Well presented, Great service

Cons: Expensive

Lots of options, my meal was ok

Lots of interesting options, would have liked to try more. The waiter told me the starters were small, but really 2 starters would have been enough for me instead of a starter and main! The cabbage starter was quite nice, but I found my main (beetroot-based with potato croquettes) a bit bland. The floor felt like it was vibrating and the service was ok, but I was sitting near Bob Odenkirk which was a thrill :-)
