Excellent food and service

The food was very good. Good to see traditional Portuguese flavours in refined and well presented vegan food. Service was attentive, everything well served, and clearly looking at providing a fine dining experience.

Went on a Wednesday, and it was very quiet, I think the experience would have been enhanced if the restaurant had more of an atmosphere.

The absolute Best!

This place is seriously amazing. I cannot overstate enough how incredible the entire dinner experience is. The location, the facility, the lighting, plates, every detail is meticulously crafted. This is also translated to the food. The craftsmanship, the artistry, the intentionality is second to none. Every dish was spectacular! The only thing better than the food....were the owners. They are such amazing individuals. They are so kind, genuine, just great people.

Pros: The service , Delicious , Quality

Great experience

The food is very good, unique and with an amazing presentation. They have seasonal plates and a menu degustação with small portions of 6 plates. The staff/owners are very nice and polite. The dessert made with ingredients of caipirinha is amazing.

Great dinner!

I really enjoyed our dinner there! The service was great, like in a gastronomical restaurant.

The dishes were really original, I never had cabbage roasted in a slice like that.
While living in Portugal, I tried a few recreation of fish à la lagareiro but plant-based, with tofu, and the one I had at Em Carne Viva was the best so far!

Great experience

The food at Em Carne Viva is outstanding both from a taste and presentation perspective. Traditional Portugues dishes are veganised with excellent results. The decor and the service are also very good making this a one of a kind experience. Definitely worth a visit.

The service is great the place is beautiful

The food is very good, but for the high standards they are going for (a bit on the pricey side), they can do better. Everything is vegan/vegetarian. The staff/owners are very friendly and polite.

Pros: Very good food, Vegan/Vegetarian Only, Great indoor and outdoor location

Cons: A bit on the pricey side, Downstairs (on the toilets) smelled like pee.

One of the best restaurants in Porto

I loved everything about this restaurant! From the beautiful dinning room to the lovely staff. The tomato rice was absolutely divine. I will definitely came back. In this pandemic time, this place is as safe and secure as it can be, great attention to it and very dedicated staff.

Pros: Beautiful decoration, Safe and secure hygiene, Incredible staff

Best vegan restaurant in Oporto

The tomato rice with seitan was probably one of the best meals I ever had.
Please If you are tired of the usual vegan burger or fast food joints, this meal will bring you so much confort and cozyness.
Sublime!
The staff was extremely nice and everything else was absolutely amazing (chorizo bread, peixinhos da horta, tomato tartare).
The outside garden is also very quiet and pretty

Pros: Best vegan restaurant in Oporto

Amazing vegan dining experience

I went here with my boyfriend and was pleasantly surprised to find out that only 1-2 weeks before the restaurant turned fully vegan. We shared the 10 course menu and found everything delicious.

Pros: Fully vegan creative menu, Nice building , Great desserts

Fancy and expensive, but great

Partner and I shared the tasting menu, 50 euros i think. Some dishes were amazing (the mushroom dish! wow); we were worried we wouldn't be full until dessert arrived, tonnes of chocolatey goodness. Nice setting, sit in the garden if warm enough.

Pros: Recommended for a special date

Cons: Expensive

Worth a trip to Porto for

Em Carne Viva is one of the finest vegan restaurants I've ever eaten in, and one of the best restaurants in any category that I've been able to afford. The food is original, not the usual vegan fare, elegantly presented, and very good. All this is enhanced by a very special ambiance (soft music that doesn't make it hard to hear your friends) and a beautiful interior design. The furniture is also beautiful (it looks as if it's all made of salvaged wood) and the chairs are comfortable. The waiters were also extremely helpful, attentive, and polite. The prices are higher than the average vegan place but still reasonable if what you are looking for is a nice meal. My daughter and I paid, including tip, about 90 Euro for a meal with two first courses, two main courses, a bottle of wine, and desert.

Thanks for ruining my birthday

They confirmed dinner reservations for my birthday on March 20th only to have them call me to tell me they weren't open today (April 14th) for dinner.
Their website says they are open every day until 10pm.

Something different

Definitely worth visiting if you are looking for something different and more up class. Very creative dishes, good wine, very nice ambiance.

The only thing is that they were really keen on closing on time. The waiter started around 9.45 pm with cleaning and while most of the guests were still seated around 10pm, the waiter only had eyes on cleaning the restaurant. For such an up class (more expensive) restaurant you would expect a bit better.

Pros: Many vegan meals and options, Great taste of food, Very nice ambiance

Cons: Too focused on closing at 10pm

Hi Maurice ! br /> br />
I hope you don't take this too personally, but I can tell from your comment you've never worked in restauration or hotellerie before. If the restaurants closing hour is 10 pm, and people are still eating after that hour, that means that the STAFF will only be leaving after 1 am. That's right ! After you leave a restaurant, the staff spends about 2 to 3 hours cleaning and getting things ready for the next day. Thats means, if the customers have the lack of sense to linger after closing hours, there will be around 10 people who get home a couple of hours late, hours for which they are not paid. And they still have to be at the restaurant at 10 am the following day. br /> br />
Restauration is a very hard area to work on. I suggest the next time you go to a restaurant, you find out about their schedules before hand, and actually respect them, without forcing an exhausted waiter to play "the bad guy" that has to inform other people that schedules are to be respected, and that you should take other people into consideration. br /> br />
Like you, I also enjoy this restaurant very much. I hope you had a nice time here in Porto.

This spot is great for a romantic dinner or some elegant celebration

Well, here we have to come prepared. The restaurant is a luxury spot, extremely vegan friendly. Luxury? Well, it includes waiters wearing gloves, especially when they change your cutlery; and very aesthetic and meticulous dishes. They have very special, delicate dishes on the menu. This spot is great for a romantic dinner or some elegant celebration. It is not cheap, but worth every cent.

Pros: atmosphere & style, facebook reservation done quickly, great menu

Cons: not cheap what so ever

Great plating but too pricey!

Small house next to Boavista with a fancy decoration which sets it appart form other veggie restaurants in Porto. Food looks great but it´s really small portioned and really expensive.
They had a daily menu which is more accessible.
But I haven´t gone back because of the price, it would set you back around €60 per couple for a normal meal.

Pros: Nice decoration, Great plating

Cons: Too expensive, Small portions

Excellent experience

This is not a place to eat something nice and cheap in a rush: it is all about the experience of it. Order your food by relaxing in the elegant garden, listening to a corner of nature in the middle of town. Enjoy reading the food menu and the vegetarian variations of Portuguese food.
Having read some other reviews, I may agree it is not Michelin quality: but it very good, varied and interesting, and not as expensive for a fine dining restaurant.

Pros: garden and ambience, varied menu

Pretty but disappointing

Beautiful old house with a romantic garden, I had high expectations seeing the good reviews here and online but the food tastes rather dull and boring, I had ‘Lagareiro’ tofu that was just full of salt and seaweed, my partner had millefeuille and it just tasted very boring. Don’t bring anyone here to convince them vegan food is good. They also charged us the appetizers we never asked for and believed to be free.

Pros: Beautiful house, Romantic garden, Mosaic bathroom with an aquarium of plastic fish

Cons: Boring dull food, Overpriced for the taste you get, You pay for appetizers that you didn’t order!

Dear manoelle,
all Portuguese restaurants serve appetisers, that you are free to eat or not; and that you pay if you choose to eat it. It is just an obvious thing in Portugal, which does not require notices from the restaurant: just an understanding of the local use.
