Cute local place

Unfortunately the menu del dia couldn't be made vegan. We had to order a la carte. We had a choice of 4 dishes, so we went with fried rice and ceviche (soup). Portion size was great and the ceviche soup was interesting (in a good way). And the price is great!

El Nuevo Paraíso Experience

Hey guys

So I ate at two of the El Nuevo Paraíso locations, one by the 9 de Octubre Market and the other in a large plaza that is usually open for dinner as well as lunch. My experience at these restaurants is that, while they do seem to have a lot of options, in reality for a vegan there is only a handful of things you can get, mostly salad, rice, lentils, and perhaps fake meat if you're into that or a cooked veggie mix if it's on their specials. Also, I was unsure of what was actually being used in the food, especially in the soup. I felt unwell a few times after eating there, but cannot be 100% it was related to what I ate there. They do tend to use dairy in their soups are perhaps additives like Maggi which contain MSG etc. However that can be very delicious if you're into that. Also the food itself is very cheap for the amount you get and the locations can be very convenient if you're staying at a hostel or hotel near the city center. Overall I would recommend if you're looking for something cheap and convenient but if you're vegan and looking for the highest quality food then it would be best to check out other alternatives. I'd say this is a big step up from most restaurants in the city and even the markets where it can be difficult to put together a vegan meal platter.

Enjoy,
Evan

Pros: Good value & vegetarian, Ample quantity of food served, Convenient, location open at night

Cons: Unsure of ingredients used, Tends to use milk and other additives, No boiled or steamed potatoes available

I think they can't cook

I had the worst food here in Ecuador. The food had no taste and I have the suspicion they don't know how to prepare food.

Pros: Many seats, Low prices

Cons: Food has no taste, Menu has no information about ingredients

Great food

The menu del dia is 2,40$ but it's vegetarian and cannot be made vegan. There are 2 vegan options: chaulafan and plato especial (2,30$ each) and both come in big portions.
Great taste and great opening hours (9:00am-9:00pm Monday to Sunday).

Pros: Big portions, price, location, opening hours

Cheap, quick and tasty food

Came on Sunday evening, one of only a few places open. Had their vegan dish , Chaulufan (veg fried rice) and an orange juice. Cost $3.50 in total. Really enjoyed my meal, a really huge portion. I took half home (be aware that they put takeaway in polystyrene, in hindsight I should’ve taken my own tub).

Pros: Cheap, Quick, Tasty

Cons: One vegan option, Polystyrene take-our container

Everything is very cheap

A bit crowded place, but everything is very cheap. I tried 1 of the 2 vegan dishes: chaulafan.(Another is some salad.) The portion was huge and not very tasty. It was at San Blas plaza.

Pros: Cheap, huge portions

Cons: Tasteless, just 2 vegan options

Really filling and tasty

A little bit out of the old town (only 15 min walk) but we were in the area and for $2.40 we had the menu of the day and left absolutely stuffed. Soup was potato, broccoli and bow tie pasta, main was rice, beans and a soy 'meat' slice, also mango juice. Simple food but fresh and tasty.

Barato y platos grandes

Pros: Centrico, barato, popular

Not much for vegans

We went to two locations of this restaurant - one on Tomás Ordoñez with Mariscal Lamar, and one a few blocks away at Plaza San Blas. Both are cheap, fast and basic. Unfortunately, there are only about 2 meals that are vegan friendly - their menu is unusually dairy heavy for South America. They specialize in giant fruit sundaes.

Pros: Cheap, Multiple locations, Big portions

Cons: Not much for vegans, Run down food court vibes
