Fantastic vegan options! - Edit
This was some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. Everything was very fresh, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Sauces were very flavorful and not too heavy. We ordered a variety of dishes: the mushroom bao (which were the only vegan buns on their menu), salt and pepper tofu appetizer (coated deep-fried tofu cubes with some chopped hot peppers in a sauce and and lettuce that you could wrap it in), sautéed peapod shoots with garlic, braised eggplant with garlic, and the ma po tofu entrée. I look forward to returning and trying some of the many other vegan items on the menu.

Good bao and nice place to sit down - Edit
7.5/10 for me. Good food, would definitely try again and explore their other tofu dishes and the eggplant. I was expecting something earth-shattering based on a review saying the salt and pepper tofu was one of the best things they’d ever eaten, so maybe my expectations were a little too high. I had the mushroom bao and the aforementioned tofu. The bao were really nice—huge, like easily a full meal, and tasty—but I’ve had more flavorful ones. They also didn’t include a dipping sauce for takeout, though it seems like they might’ve just forgotten and were happy to give me one when I popped back in. The tofu had a nice crispness with that great silken texture inside, but the dominant flavor was mostly spiciness and not much else going on.

Get the mushroom buns!!! - Edit
These mushroom buns were so good I had to stop and think—“I should post this on happycow so other vegans can enjoy what I’m enjoying.” The mapo tofu was good/ok but not my style (I feel like every restaurant has veryyy different mapo tofu; I guess it’s like a each place has their own family recipe situation? Or it varies so much by culinary region?) and this one was drier and also quite spicy (rather than sweet). We also got the veg flat noodles which were so good and tasted so nostalgic even to my white friend haha.

I had the fried soft tofu and the eggplant in spicy sauce. Both were amazing!! This is my favorite local Chinese restaurant.

Delicious Basil Eggplant - Edit
I ordered general gao's tofu and basil eggplant and both were good, but the basil eggplant was stand-out great! The tofu had a crispy outer shell and soft inside, though it wasn't spongy.

A staple of my college experience - Dumpling House is reliably delicious and authentic, and it's easy to order vegan!

Amazing food! - Edit
Best Chinese food I've had in the Boston area, I'm moving away and this will be the restaurant I'll miss the most. I love everything I've gotten here, especially General Gao's Tofu. Great for take out and eating in although they do have live lobsters in tanks which is upsetting.

Delicious vegan options - Edit
Came here last night and got the vegetable buns with mushrooms and the sautéed bean curd sheet with bamboo shoot and black mushrooms. Everything was so flavorful and delicious! The order of buns came with four buns the size of my fist, and between that and the bean curd dish it was enough food that I took half my meal home. I wished their menu explicitly labeled which items were vegan, but the staff were happy to answer my questions. I can’t wait to come back! I’m going to want those mushroom buns all winter 😋

Best Tofu I’ve Had - Edit
This place is always packed for a reason. I had gotten the pepper tofu as kind of an add on thinking it wouldn’t be as good as the dumpling, but it blew it out of the water. The tofu was crunchy and spiced so well . It didn’t really hold up in terms of texture the next day but I’ll absolutely order again. Also the dumpling itself was fluffy and super filling. You could order either item on its own, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Must visit if you’re in the area!
