I travelled from Seattle, WA to Dublin for amazing NY pizza!!!

Ok, I didn't actually travel all that way *just* for NY pizza but ... I was pleasantly surprised when I accidentally came across DiFontaine's, just north of the River Liffey. This Brooklyn boy sees "NY style pizza" and well, I stop in my tracks!!! I was just visiting the Dublin area for the first time and hadn't realized how vegan friendly Dublin can be so I didn't expect them to have vegan options. Thankfully, I was mistaken, they had a couple of different types of vegan slices.

The pizza was really good. The texture was consistent with thin sliced NY pizza, the slices were a bit larger than your average NY slice, a good "problem" to have :). It feels good in the hands to have that NY slice that you can fold in half (don't cut it with a knife and fork ... don't you dare!!! haha). The cheese had an even melt to it, this in contrast to some places that use vegan cheese shreds which gives an inconsistent look, feel and melt, but no...DiFontaine's was right on point!! Another nice added touch was the vegan mayo dipping sauce available for the crust - oh my, that was delicious!

They also have a vegan calzone available but it takes about 15 minutes to make so we didn't have the chance to try.

One thing I noticed about Dublin eateries, they tend to close fairly early to what I'm used to, maybe 8pm or 9pm. DiFontaine's is open pretty late every day, later on some days than others. So if you're looking for a late night snack and feeling abandoned by the other local eateries, don't worry ... DiFontaine's has your back :P

Pros: Great smooth melt on the cheese, Dipping sauce available for the crust, Late night hours

Cons: I have to fly 9 hours for a slice :)

Very good vegan pizza

There are a couple vegan options. I only tried the vegan ricotta pizza but it was very good and I would get it again. They sell by the slice and the slices are huge so one to two is plenty.

A slice to remember

They have two vegan pizza slice options, but they are not shown in the display. Instead just ask them about it and they’ll be happy to tell you. It was a large slice with vegan sausage and vegan cheese that had a strong taste to it.

Tasty vegan pizza

I was delighted that they still had vegan pizza since there was none in the display case. I got the vegan sausage slice. €7.50 is expensive for a slice but it was a big portion and tasty. We were lucky to get a stool as it was relatively quiet.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Expensive , Not much seating

Simple but good

I got the vegan pizza with sausage. There was also a vegan vegetable pizza there. One slice is the perfect amount. Not sure what brand of cheese they use, but it's good. Would recommend for a quick bite.

Pros: Two vegan options, Quick

Cons: Could have more options

Delicious pizza

The pizza is sooo tasty. Great mix of vegan cheese used. Loved the spicy ‘sausage’ one. The margherita was great too. Pizza slices are huge! On the pricey side but that’s just Dublin nowadays.
As another reviewer stated, it’s in Temple Bar but away from the hecticness of it!
Great for a quick, casual meal. You can sit at the bar. #Veganuary

Pros: Big slices, Super tasty, Good location

A dream

The pizza is a dream. Unfortunately a little more expensive than the non-vegan pizzas. The 2 times we were there they had no vegan calzone (just the pizza slice)

Decent pizza but few options

The pizza was good but the cheese flavor was overwhelming. More options with veggies would be appreciated.

Pizza in a pinch

Pizza sold by the slice. Two vegan choices here - margarita and a calzone. I didn’t try the calzone, just the margarita. The slice was huge! It was hot with a nice thin and crispy base, but some vegetables would have been nice as cheese alone was a little bland. I’ll try the calzone if I’m back again.

Decent slices

Has a couple of vegan options. Quick service. Grab a slice and sit wherever is free. Close to but still far enough away from the mayhem of Temple Bar

Pros: Tasty slices

One vegan option

The pizza slice had a good size and was tasty. I ate 2 slices and was full afterwards.
Only one option is currently available.
Music was very loud and only a few places to sit.
Staff was friendly.

Boring and overpriced

I ordered a slice of the vegan pizza which consists of only vegan cheese. No toppings other than cheese. The slice was big, but the taste was bland and boring, so the size of the slice did not create much value for me. In addition, I paid around 8 USD for a single slice (nearly the same price as close to a whole pizza at other places with more toppings than just vegan cheese). The selection of vegan pizzas only costisted of, at least to my observations, that one slice of the vegan pizza. I waited several minutes to get my two ordered slices as the place was overcrowded and loud. The staff was not too friendly neither. I don't think we exchanged eye contact once.

Kinda dry

This wasn’t terrible but it tasted pretty dry and was very overpriced. I think it was about 8 dollars per slice. With just cheese.

Quick pizza

Pizza by the slice with vegan slices available but €2 more than other slices. If you go at rush hour they will not make the vegan calzone for you. Good quick stop

Ok. Not good value

Pizza is nice. Service is mediocre. No atmosphere or seating. Cannot add pizza toppings and is €6.50 per slice. Not worth the cost unless you’re wasted and starving

Nice option

I was a bit sceptic when I saw the pre-made pizzas 🍕 and how they simply heat them up on the oven. But I was very surprised that the vegan 🌱 slice tasted really good especially with their home made cashew ricotta. Not the greatest vegan pizza I ever had but a very lovely choice to enjoy. I would eat it again.

Pros: Tasty cheese , Great option , Huge slice

Cons: A bit pricy , Very busy at night

Great pizza at night

I went there to try their vegan pepperoni pizza but it turns out that currently they have only one vegan option with vegan ricotta. The pizza was good and the slice just huge. Maybe slightly too expensive for the quality (6 euro per slice), but I enjoyed the pizza and would recommend it to everyone.

Decent pizza

Not the best pizza I've ever had but it was decent for a quick hot lunch or snack. Ask for the vegan pizza because it's not always on display but they keep it separately. They have additional toppings like nutritional yeast with chili and oregano. The pizza isn't very flavourful without it.

Pros: Quick and easy

Cons: Only one vegan option
