Simply the best! - Edit
This place used to be a vegetarian food cart downtown, before becoming a fully vegan sandwich shop on the east side. Super delicious food and reasonable prices.

Huge delicious sandwiches - Edit
We've been here twice now and somehow forgot to take photos because we were too eager to eat the huge delicious sandwiches! We've had the reuben, the zesty italian sub, the cajun chicken po'boy, and the cheesesteak. We also had the potato and mac salads. Everything was absolutely delicious, especially the reuben. The portions are so generous, and the food is excellent!

They keep burning food and cannot handle feedback given. Owner is very unprofessional and should probably be doing something else

Delicious and open for 15yrs! - Edit
I am a long time fan of DC Vegetarian, it was one of the first vegan places I ate at after stopping meat nearly 7 years ago. This weekend was their 15 year anniversary celebration and they were offering fun prizes and discounts- overall it was a good visit. I almost always get the Chicken Salad Sub and LOVE it!

Good. Would like to try more of the menu. - Edit
Hole in the wall atmosphere aesthetically, but very welcoming. Thought it was pricey at first but then I saw the portions, very generous. The few items I’ve had were on the basic side. Very standard and reliable place to get vegan versions of sandwich/burger shop staples.

DC = Deliciously Content? - Edit
This is actually my second visit; first visit after downloading Happy Cow app. I remember coming here months ago for their Reuben sandwich, which was freakishly huge. I wasn’t really hungry or anything, so I simply ordered the wings which tasted (and looked) just like the actual chicken wings (what sorcery did they do with those wings??). They were kind enough to allow me to have four wings of two different flavours (two wings for each flavours). The wings was pretty good, but nothing to leave home for. The choices are somewhat limited, but if I get tired of other vegan restaurants, I’ll be certain to return to this one eventually….

Favorite burger spot - Edit
The best burger and sandwich spot! The War Eagle is my favorite. They also make a great German potato salad. Definitely recommend when you want that greasy, messy burger vibe.

Limited options but tasty - Edit
Plenty of meat alternative options, or a delicious grilled cheese otherwise. The Reuben was a flavorful hot mess. Soup of the day was good.

Order the Italian Sub and eat it right away. There’s also a version with Pastrami which is excellent. Go get one…

Excellent veggie burger (skip the tempeh bacon, it was mushy not crisp). Delicious kale salad. Fries available Wednesday and Fryday.

Always a great choice - Edit
I used to go to the food cart pretty regularly when it was downtown but it fell off my radar a bit when they moved. The menu is bigger and costs have gone up but it's still pretty great. My omni friends think the food is pretty meh and the sauerkraut was pretty average, but the soycurls are guaranteed good.

Good food, restaurant name is funny - Edit
The chick’n salad sub I got was filling (but messy.) Their name is confusing as the place is vegan not vegetarian & in Portland not DC. I went to DC Vegan in Washington D.C. months later and found out DC Vegetarian is their 2nd location. I think “Portland Vegan” would make more sense but at least the food is good and it IS all vegan!!

The breakfast sandwiches you want. - Edit
Great staff and owners. All I ever want is breakfast sandwiches and they’re easily the best in town. I’m from the Midwest and have to say as good as Portland is with vegan food in many, many ways, its seriously lacking in good comfort food, especially when it comes to vegan breakfast, but DC Veg stands out and delivers what Im looking for. They have plenty of other things to offer, but I just stick to what I know. The only thing I wish they had was a vegan Benedict, but I don’t think Im allowed to give any more stars.

Below average food for an above average price - Edit
I was super excited by the menu. We got a Ruben and the Po’Boy. The Ruben was not good at all compared to other vegan rubens I’ve had in Portland. For these prices I would expect a lot higher quality ingredients and nicer presentation.
Read moreThe place seemed a little too well worn and the bathroom was a bit gross. I’m cool with some late 90s throw back Portland grunginess but not for 15 bucks a sandwich.
I hate writing negative reviews but it was just overall not a good experience in my opinion.

Flavor! - Edit
This food was packed full of flavor. Sure, if you’re not a fan of meat substitutes I can understand not being a fan, but I loved it! Definitely recommend the wings.

Delicious Sandwich - Edit
Saw incredibly mixed reviews on here so we were a little hesitant to try but very glad we did. We got 2 Italian subs and some potato salad to bring over to the coast for lunch. The sandwiches were thick, delicious, and so filling. #Veganuary

Not bad if you’re craving some meat alternatives - Edit
I split the Reuben and the Cajun Chicken po boy with my partner. I found the Reuben to be inedibly salted but my partner said that’s how Reubens taste so maybe I just don’t like Reubens 🤷🏻♀️ the po boy was pretty good.

DC Vegan - Edit
I've been a customer since they had a food cart downtown years ago. Glad they eventually became all vegan. Today, I ordered the Chicky Sally Jr, which is a smaller version of the Chicken Salad Sub. It's messy, but worth it. The cookies are good, but expensive.

Plant-based meats aren’t my usual goto, but on occasion they hit the spot. One such occasion was visiting DC Vegetarian. I ordered the fried chicken po’ boy and it did not disappoint. The potato salad was also delicious.
