A new favorite--the best vegan italian food - Edit
After visiting Coletta NYC last week, it has rocketed to near the top of my list for favorite restaurants. It's expensive, so it won't become a regular go-to. But for special occassions I can think of nowhere better. The food is to die for. Easily the best spaghetti carbonara I've had in many years, and the sausage ravioli was excellent. The cheese platter blew my mind, and the tiramisu was a great choice for dessert.

You will over order! - Edit
Everything here is so good. We came for the cheese plate because we had heard incredible things about the brand of blue cheese they’re carrying here (from Climax Foods) but the cheese was only the beginning of an incredible meal. All the cheeses on the plate were amazing and the spicy pepperoni was also fun. We tried the steak tartare for a starter and it was bonkers. I don’t know how they did it but it was so spot on (we had an omnivore at the table who agreed). My friend started with the meatballs and the portion was enormous and came with four huge garlic knots.
Read moreFor mains our group chose three types of pasta and one pizza and everything was outrageously good, but I admit my carbonara defeated me and I had to bring most of it home. I was sad we overordered because I was looking forward to a tiramisu. I just couldn’t do it though.
The only weak link was my cocktail. My friends’ drinks were all good or great but I chose wrong with the Nuts and Berries. It was too sweet and the heavy cream on top was too thick and flavorless. Next time I would order something different.
The staff was so kind. One member of our party had an emergency and ran very late but they were nice about it and accommodated us even though we lingered a long time over drinks waiting for her. From such a busy place I kind of didn’t expect that kindness but the staff was wonderful.
Absolutely blows other vegan Italian options I’ve been to out of the water. I will definitely be back!

Outstanding vegan Italian! - Edit
My wife and I recently visited NYC and ended up having dinner at Coletta three times within a week because we just couldn't get enough.
Read moreAcross the three nights we sampled the lemon ricotta toast, crispy calamari, garlic knots, fig jam and prosciutto pizza, chickn spiedini, salmon and polenta special, squid ink ravioli, campanelle al tartuffo, carbonara, tiramisu and the dark chocolate and lavender lava cake.
Every single dish was delicious and I would eat again in a heart beat, but our stand outs were definitely the squid ink ravioli and the campanelle al tartufo, which were just outstanding. I would give a special mention to the carbonara which I think any meat eater would enjoy - I still can't quite fathom how they made it like that while still being vegan, my mind was blown, and the lemon ricotta toast which I wasn't sure about on first bite but the more you eat , the more you begin to understand the complexities of the flavours and wonderful balance of sweet, salty and citrus.
I would rank Coletta as my favourite restaurant worldwide so far and will be back in a heartbeat should I have the opportunity!
Pros: Food is amazing , Great atmosphere , Staff are lovely

Creative and delicious pizzas - Edit
Coletta is such a beautiful restaurant. The menu is quite extensive so it was very difficult to choose what to eat. We ordered two pizzas to share: the potato and rosemary and the fig jam and "prosciutto". I've never tasted pizzas like these ones before. Both of them had a perfect mix of sweet and savory elements that I never thought would go well together. They were really tasty, every bite was an explosion of interesting flavors. The quality of the ingredients was noticeable. Even though the pizzas are expensive, they are quite big and fulfilling. I think that one pizza is not enough for two people, but it is definitely way more than enough for one person. I was so full afterward that I didn't have room for dessert, which I was really looking forward to. Well, next time!

Coletta was met with an absolute delight! - Edit
As an Italian vegan, my anticipation for dining at Coletta was high. Accompanied by my sister, the experience turned out to be an absolute delight.
Read moreMy inclination for housemade sodas led me to savor the Strawberry Lemon Mint Housemade Soda ($6). Its harmonious blend of sweet and tangy notes was thoroughly enjoyable.
The Puttanesca “Meatballs” ($18) set a flawless tone for our meal. These meatballs remarkably mirrored the flavors of our childhood favorites. The capers and olives elevated the dish, while the garlic knots were impeccable.
Opting to share, we ordered the House Salad on the side. Its portion exceeded expectations, offering fresh greens laced with a bold white balsamic vinaigrette. The sprinkle of parmesan on top was a tasteful touch.
For the main course, my sister selected the Rigatoni alla Norma ($26). She enjoyed the freshness of the pasta and appreciated the well-balanced sauce that avoided excessive acidity. A slightly milder level of saltiness and larger eggplant pieces would have made it even more ideal.
I savored the Wild Mushroom Truffle Pizza ($25). Having craved this combination for a while, the pizza surpassed expectations. The dough was soft, while the crust was bubbly and crunchy. Each bite unfolded a harmonious medley of sweet and savory flavors, accompanied by creamy and crunchy textures. The abundant mushroom topping and the kick of red pepper flakes elevated the experience. Although a subtle saltiness was present, it remained irresistible. Pairing it with a hint of the salad added a complementary touch.
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
The hostess, bartender, and servers demonstrated genuine kindness and attentiveness. The ambiance was a seamless blend of cleanliness and modernity, with a touch of comfort. The highlight for me was the enchanting music that transported me momentarily to Italy. Our dishes were served promptly and maintained an impressive level of freshness. A return visit is unquestionable.
Coletta proved to be a haven for Italian vegan cuisine, with standout dishes that, while occasionally slightly salty, tantalized the taste buds with their authentic flavors and thoughtful pairings.
My true rating is 4.5
EXTRA:
The tables were extremely close together
Very dim lighting
GF options
Kosher
We made a reservation
Pros: Fresh food, So many good options / thoughtful pairings, Friendly and Fast Service
Cons: On the pricey side, Some dishes ate on the salty side

Wow this was so cool to see, thanks! I grew up here in NY & since becoming vegan I find it hard to get proper Italian food made plant-based. John’s on 12 St is a classic NY eatery but have to say I’m not crazy about it. Will definitely check this place out. 😋

Unbelievable vegan Italian - Edit
Brought some non-veg friends and they could not stop raving. Truly amazing food! Had such a hard time deciding what to order because it all sounded so so good. We all shared the calamari and a side a broccolini to start. Then squid ink ravioli, sausage and artichoke pizza, and a pasta. Tiramisu for dessert. Could not recommend enough.

Love - Edit
I LOVED it. We got the calamari to share. My friend got the chicken parm which was really good. Another friend got the sausage ravioli which was amazing. Another friend got the vodka pasta which I liked but they didn’t so much. We also got the tiramisu which was just okay. However, I got the special steak, which was AMAZING. I hope they add something like that to the menu. I’d love to go back.

Just...WOW - Edit
I went to Coletta a while back and had the gnocci (before the new menu) and the chocolate budino. It was very delicious. I liked the smaller pprtion size and it was satisfying 👌
Read moreWent for the new menu and was blown away by how tasty and fresh everything was! The ravioli al uovo was surreal-- I haven't had eggs in 6 years and the way the vegan "yoegg" was runny and smelled like eggs was wild! The fig and feta salad was a great way to start the meal and was light and delicious.
The wild mushroom truffle pizza was fantastic and the fig Jam and prosciutto pizza was great as well. I have a preference for mushrooms in general 🍄
Tried all the ice cream and all yummy-- the hazelnut was my favorite!
Panna Cotta absolutely divine. Must order.
Biscottis were small and delicious. Great to order with an ice cream. They were more tender than crunchy which I loved.
Pros: Delicious food, Fresh pasta!, Creative dishes

Excellent vegan Italian food - Edit
Absolutely blown away by my experience at Coletta! My non-vegan friends loved it as well - they couldn't even tell the food was fully plant-based. The ambiance feels like an upscale Italian restaurant. They have many pasta and pizza dishes, as well as appetizers, scrumptious desserts, and classy cocktails and wines.
Read moreI got the oyster mushroom "calamari", truffle pizza, and tiramisu. The highlight of the meal was definitely the truffle pizza - they're so generous with the toppings, and the crust was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had! The "calamari" flavor, texture, and mouthfeel felt convincingly real. The tiramisu was not authentic (more of a fluffy cream with cookie crumble) but delicious nonetheless.
It's not cheap though; prepare to spend about 60$ per person. Service was quite slow, even though it was a Monday night and not particularly busy.
Overall though, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone - vegans, veg-curious, and meat-eaters alike!

It’s ok. - Edit
We were very excited to try this place and left pretty disappointed. Had the tuna carpaccio special, which was great, but everything went downhill from there: the mushroom pizza was made with daiya cheese (or a similarly horrible brand that doesn’t melt) and the crust was oily, while the tiramisu was extremely sweet. We were looking for a competitor to our favorite vegan pizza spot in the East Village but this wasn’t even close.

Kind of place you could bring carnivores. The "calamari" was crispy with just the right chew (King Mushroom rings) that non-vegans thought it was seafood. Great meatballs, penne alavodka, pasta alaNorma. Want to go back to try more dishes. Highly recommend.

Coletta was a great place for a fancy meal before seeing a Broadway show. The restaurant is super nice. I got the Chick'n Linguini Alfredo and it was good. My server offered vegan Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top of my pasta, which I thought was a really nice touch. Expensive for daiya-like pizza - Edit
We were really excited to try Coletta because the pizza looked so good on here. We were so sad to see that even though it’s very expensive (esp with USD to CAD conversion) they used daiya (or another grocery brand that was not good) cheese and the crust was nothing special. If you’re drawn here for the pizza I would recommend going elsewhere. I’ve had much better for much cheaper in Toronto and in other cities.
