Relaxing Gluten Free and Vegan Dining in Kyoto - Edit
My husband and I went here twice while in Kyoto. They have a great selection of desserts and meals and they also have some breakfast options. Lots of vegan cheeses as well! We wrote a full review on our blog randrwander if you are interested in hearing more!

Extremely disappointed - Edit
I was really excited at first that the menu was in English and had pictures, although it's not Japanese food, I had high hopes with all the nice reviews they had. Wow, was it extremely disappointing. I had the pasta bolognese with vegan mozzarella, it was just slightly warm. The flavor tasted only of the rice pasta they were using even though there seemed to be enough sauce. There were 4 very small dollops of the mozzarella, which, when you put your fork in it, it stuck together almost like a rice cake. No real flavor at all in the mozzarella. There was quinoa in it, but nothing really made it "bolognese" like. Seriously so bad. It was 1400 yen which is basically just under $14 USD. For that price I could've bought a dozen rice balls from the many convenient stores in Japan. It was self service water although there were at least 5 waiters. My food, was almost cold for it being pasta, and I heard another couple complain that their dish was actually very cold and they wanted it reheated, of which, after the waiter spoke to the manager, came back saying there was nothing they could do. So not only is the food cold and bland, but the customer service doesn't care. Oh and I forgot to mention that it's not very clean, for going there at 5pm when dinner service just opened, there was leftover food on the bench where they placed me. Even if the menu is vegan and gluten free, there's nothing about this place that makes it worth a visit. I would only give it 1 star but Happy Cow automatically gives it a star bumping it to 2 because it's an exclusively vegan restaurant. What a total joke of a restaurant.

Vegan and gluten free! - Edit
This was one of our favorite restaurants in Kyoto. All of the dishes we tried were delicious!
Read moreThe menu was in English, although the staff was able to speak English well.
The quiche melted in your mouth, it was a cashew base that created a fabulous texture. The curry and pasta were also big hits at our table. As for desserts, the strawberry lemon was cashew based and melted in your mouth. The chocolate cake was incredible too! My husband got the pancakes with vegan butter and maple syrup and we all tried it and loved it.
Pros: English menu, Great flavors

Delicious vegan food! - Edit
Came here by chance after finding Ain Soph closed, and I’m glad I did. Really nice atmosphere, and the food was all great. The options leaned more western-style than Japanese and many included their house-made vegan cheese. Tried the vegan cheese sampler plate, the taco rice, and the chocolate pancake. Also tried a bit of my dining companions’ rum raisin/nut pancake and cheesecake. The cheesecake in particular was amazing!

Delicious healthy food - Edit
I had the oil-free curry after a long 24 hour journey to Kyoto, and it was so amazing. Bursting with flavor and the perfect comfort food for my tired body. I also had the dandelion tea, which was so black and rich I thought it was espresso. It was very good. I got the Italian cashew cheese they make in-house to bring back to my room, and it is divine. I ate the whole thing in one sitting. I went back the next day and had the cheese platter, risotto, and rice milk ice cream, all of which were super yummy. The risotto was so creamy! The cheese is seriously amazing. The soft serve style ice cream is totally different from other vegan ice creams I’ve had and totally delicious.

So happy to have found this place! - Edit
Dangerously close to the hotel I am staying at in Kyoto. Food is delicious. Prices are what I would expect back home for the quality. They are organic, gluten free and vegan. A must try. I have had their açai bowl, pancake breakfast, quiche and pasta Bolognese. All amazing. I have also had their chlorella muffin. I plan to try their cheese plate soon!

I think there is better - Edit
The food was nice but it's quite expensive compared to other places in kyoto. Sort of wish i went to one of the others. I also don't really care if it's gluten free which may be why it's got the higher price

There are much better options in Kyoto - Edit
CHOICE is a western style cafe centred around a few western (burgers, pasta etc) food options, all of which are vegan and gluten free. I had a pasta dish which was, ok. Not great, and certainly not worth what I paid. Combined with poor service (forgotten meals and inattentive staff) I am regretting not going to a local food restaurant.

Nice light meals, sleek decor - Edit
Came here for breakfast on my last day in Kyoto. Tried the pancake set meal. Very nice, but a little on the pricey side and I felt the portion of the salad was a little stingy. I wasn't all that hungry, but just in terms of value for money I'd say this is a little on the pricey end (the target customer seems to be young working professionals as well as tourists). Taste-wise, I don't have any complaints - I really enjoyed the pancake (never had such a thick one before!) and the pancake spread (not sure what was in it but it was delicious). The shop itself is very laid-back and the staff are friendly and professional.

Pretty nice store. The food is extremly healthy and because everything is purely natural it tastes a bit different to the things one is used to. But it's definitely worth trying out!

Delicious food! - Edit
All food is vegan. I had the chocolate pancakes. The pancakes are traditionally Japanese so really thick, drizzled with chocolate sauce and cacao nibs. Salty butter and maple syrup on the side. The green smoothie was delicious as well. Make sure to get there on time because they stop serving breakfast and lunch at certain hours. However the staff comes by and attends all customers personally that this would be the last moment to order any extra breakfast/lunch items. Highly recommend it and would definitely go there again

Pasta dish was tasty but on the small side, would have been perfect with some crusty vegan bread and a small side salad for the price. The same with the stroganoff, could have benefited from added veggies and a small salad.
