Great Thai Meal - Edit
What we thought would be a casual Thai joint in San Mateo turned out to be one of the best veggie meals we've had in a long time.
Read moreOur group of three split a couple of mainstay dishes including their Papaya Salad, Tom Kha with Tofu, and entrees such as their Fried "Fish" and Minced Basil Soymeat.
Everything came in large portions that we were barely able to finish most of them without taking a few bites home. The salad and tom kha were my two favorites - each having so much depth and flavor to each dish. The mock fish was also a standout and really goes well with a serving of rice, so don't forget to order some.
Looks like they used to be a fully vegetarian/vegan restaurant but have since started serving animal products. Despite that, I encourage anyone to give them a try because their food and service were fantastic.

Really creative, tasty dishes! This place is like 80% vegan, and the rest is vegetarian (eg some of their noodle/rice dishes like pad see ew and pineapple friend rice have eggs). For this area though that is amaaazing and I wish there were more places like it. When I've gotten delivery, they are really receptive on the phone to remove the egg if I want one of those rice dishes etc. I really like the "catfish", it's super spicy and always hits the spot. Their noodle soup is also delicious.

Most of their dishes are vegan. Had the Pad Thai, Cashew Nut, fire wings and shrimp rolls. All were very delicious, remember to say no egg. Many options for different types of veg meat or tofu. The wings were are from the vegan shop oakland. My non veg friend loved the food as well.

Amazing all-vegetarian menu, although it seems the location combines 2 restaurants (one veg and one non-veg). Our food was delicious! Can’t wait to order from Chai Yo again.
