Good, but the clement location is better! - Edit
I’ve been thinking about the meal I had at Burma superstar for a full year now so when I finally made it back to SF, this was first on my list when my dear friend who graciously opened their home to me asked me what I’d like to eat. Visions of the delightfully crispy and pillowy combo of the yellow tofu appetizer danced before my eyes as I fell asleep the night before our excursion to the restaurant. Before I discuss the food, I’d like to mention that the service was fast and attentive. The food however paled in comparison to my vivid memories. The yellow tofu I had been oh so excited to revisit was far less pillowy- it had more of a dense, sweet potato like texture to it. Our friend and fellow happy cow contributor @georgiamae noted that the Shan noodles were noticeable less tomato centric, though the tea leaf salad was unchanged.
Read moreMmm It was then that my formerly dear friend revealed to me that they had taken me to a DIFFERENT location than we had dined at previously. I chalk up the differences we noticed to this Unforeseen Variable. Eventually, I do believe my relationship with this friend will recover, but this was certainly a setback.

Decent food, not the best Burmese - Edit
They’d run out of tea leaf salad but had plenty of vegan choices. Got the samosa soup, green beans and noodles. It was decent

Fantastic vegan options - Edit
I ate lunch here with a non-veg friend, and we shared two of their vegan choices on the menu, and we both loved both items!
Read moreThe staff made sure to check both our vaccination status and our IDs (to be sure the names matched).
We enjoyed eating and talking for more than two hours, till they needed to shut down to prepare for their dinner hours.
Pros: Fantastic vegan options, Friendly staff, quiet, comfortable environment

Great vegan options! - Edit
Everything vegan is clearly marked on their digital menu, I had the eggplant & it was delicious! Definitely try the coconut rice too, it’s so good! Be weary that this place is super busy, even for takeout. We got lucky and were able to be seated at the bar to eat.

Burma Love - Edit
The food is really good and I really love the tea leaf salad (made vegan). So why a 3 and not a 5? A few things:
Read more- They are always sooooo slow. Don't come here super hungry (or thirsty).
- They consistently mess up my vegan entrees by adding egg, or whatever to my dishes. I hate the fact that I have to inspect my food here and question the employees, especially when the entrees are between $15-$20 each (for vegetarian dishes). I knocked off an extra star because they didn't even apologize for this when it happened AGAIN last week.
- If you order takeout, they give you a lot less food than they do in the restaurant and charge you the same price. Nice.
Despite the points above, BL has a nice atmosphere, great for date nights.

Finding love at Burma Love - Edit
Serious vibes after a couple of drinks at nearby Zeitgeist with a first date so I suggested we continue with dinner at Burma Love, which has always come through.
Read moreThe laphet/tea leaf salad is always a good opener, followed up by a combo of the tofu garlic noodles (sub rice noodles to make vegan) and sautéed eggplant. Everything was top notch. Plenty of vegan options on the menu which are all clearly labeled. Also suggest their rotating cocktails which keeps things interesting (just watch out for the honey).
As to the date, yes, there will be a second.😄Thanks Burma Love, you did good!
