All time favourite restaurant!

I love this place so much! I’ve lived in the area for 6 years and have tried lots of vegan places around Melbourne and this one takes the cake! My partner and I come here for every special occasion we’re celebrating. We always order the pho and katsu sando, those are the best!! We often try a third dish for something new and the rest of the menu never disappoints!

Pros: Pho, Delicious food, Lovely setting

Cons: None!

I still miss the old bam bam

I love brother bon and all the new changes since they stopped being loving hut years ago, but I still miss the old bam bam dish and wish they'd make it instead of the new version! It was seriously iconic. Also the food is extremely expensive... Most expensive broken rice I've had and I was shocked I had to pay extra for the lil soup that is usually included everywhere else you get broken rice! But the food is delicious and I'm happy to see a vegan restaurant still going after all these years.

Incredible food

My partner received a voucher for Brother Bon so we went for dinner. We shared the tofu entree which tasted like battered fish, it was amazing. I ordered the satay udon noodles and my partner had the hanoi salad. Both had great flavours and huge portions- we both took home leftovers.
So many creative gelato flavours and cones to choose from. I got bubblegum and my partner got black sesame which we both loved. Highly recommend! Bit pricey but great for a special occasion.

Good but it's overpriced, processed pub food

Don't think this place deserves the hype it gets, as (I suspect 90%) of the food is some from a packet (frozen imported mock meats).

I like vegan junk food/comfort food, but when they charge premium price, I expect a bit more (like house made sauces and seitan).

The food here is what I'd expect to get a pub for a fraction of the price.

Mate got fried chicken for $32 and payed an additional $8 for measly side of mash of gravy. They gravy was watery and looked and tasted to be from a packet.

Our food all came out at different times, which was frustrating (at least a 10 minute wait). Mate was almost done their dish when mine came out. No one checked to see if we wanted more drinks in between. Alcohol also really expensive.

Far too expensive and not a lot fresh veggies.

Pros: all vegan, friendly staff, huge area

Cons: too expensive, cost doesn't really match the quality

Agreed it is very expensive but the flip side is that they do pay their workers properly. Many restaurants keep their prices down by underpaying staff.

they also give their staff great discounts on the food as well!

Found a new favourite

Brother Bon has always been one of the most recommended places to go to so I'm so glad I finally got to go. The menu is so extensive I wanted to try everything! My husband who is omni was also actually pleased! We got the tofu bites, Taiwanese popcorn chicken and the lion's mane from the specials and they were delicious. The staff are very attentive and friendly. We shall definitely go back!

Pros: Good casual space, Good menu and food, Nice staff

Worth a try

Quite tasty and good service but rich and seemed too focused on faux meat rather than vegetables

Pros: Good service , Drink range

Cons: Small portions

Best soups ever

This is probably one of the best vegan restaurants in Melbourne, you must go. The menus are longggg , plenty of options which we as vegan, are not used to have, so its challenging to choose (life is hard). Service is very good, all people are from heaven.

Review 2025: went again, only getter better. Go!

Delicious menu filled with fresh Asian fusion dishes

Amazing tasty food, very fresh and friendly customer service. Had the stay skewers and char kawy teow. Both were delicious! My partner had the fried chicken with volcano sauce and was very happy. The carrot cake was a nice dessert to top it all off too.

Favourite restaurant in Melbourne!

My absolute favourite restaurant in Melbourne!I've been here a few times now and everything I've had has been brilliant. I tend to come here more for special occasions as it's a little on the pricier side but the food is definitely worth it. Staff are super friendly and helpful, giving great recommendations (much appreciated when everything looks so good on the menu!)

I had the Char Siu Wonton Mee, which comes with a side of soup and chilli oil if you want to add a little extra spice. All the flavours are so well balanced and the mock beef is almost too good to be true. If I could give more than 5 stars for this place I absolutely would! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Pros: Fantastic, friendly service, Delicious food, Great portion size

Disappointing 😣

Unfortunately I don’t have much positive to say about this place. My friends and I made a booking here and weren’t given our table until 20 minutes after we arrived. I ordered the satay udon noodles with vegan chicken (you can choose between a range of mock meats and proteins) which ended up costing over $32 even though they were listed on the menu as $29. It should go without saying, but over $30 for a plate of noodles is pretty astronomical. I’d be happy to pay this much for a large plate of noodles if I was sharing, but this plate was really only enough for one person. Staff however were friendly and attentive.

Pros: Offers a range of mock meats to add on to dishes , Offers house made gelato

Cons: Overpriced for what you get

Beautiful food, extensive meal, excellent service!

We’ve been coming to brother bon for over a year now, most recently last night to celebrate my partner’s 25th Birthday. While the price may be quite high, the portion sizes on the mains make them justified, and the taste and quality of the food is nothing short of extraordinary. From everything entree right through to dessert, you can’t go wrong with anything on their extensive menu, which is a little overwhelming for vegans as we’re so used to just picking either one or two things on a menu in any other restaurant.
If you come in, get any of the fried rices, and the edamame. Oh my god the edamame is incredible.

Pros: Edamame, Fried rice, Friendly service

Always a good vibe

I’ve been eating here since it opened as Loving Hut and it’s always had a great atmosphere, staff are always friendly, service good, food comes out quickly, plus there’s always interesting and varied food choices and specials. And yes, it is definitely expensive. However it’s a vegan restaurant that’s stood the test of time that is always a good time, so I’m happy to support Brother Bon.

Pros: Tasty dishes, Great atmosphere , Food comes out fast

Cons: Can be expensive

Not cheap, but good

It's taken me forever to get around to coming here and I'm glad I finally made it. I got the pho and my friend and I shared the green papaya salad and they were both great. The papaya salad was so fresh and delicious, it's not easy to find a good vegan papaya salad so I'm glad I've discovered this. The pho was pretty enormous and had a great fragrant flavour, the herbs and bean shoots on the side were also super fresh. Somehow our two soups, two drinks and one salad came to over $100 so it isn't the cheapest meal you're going to get, but I couldn't fault the food or service at all.

I say it every time somebody reviews BB: a lot of restaurants underpay their workers to keep prices down. While I agree BB is pricy, they do pay their staff properly.

One of my all time favourites!

I’ve been coming here for many years, and have never been disappointed! The new mushroom baos are off the charts! The service is always great and the restaurant is very clean.

The prices are a bit too expensive for what you get. The value for money isn’t great these days imo.

Very nice food - however, for what you get - it definitely did feel slightly more on the expensive side. Still well worth a visit. I’d particularly recommend the bang bang cauliflower.

Cons: Slightly pricey

Not as good as others

Update
Food was delicious again - the pho is really intense
Unfortunately it was the 2nd out of two times that food came 10min apart which is really annoying especially without saying anything
Also expensive for what you get
So either one finished eating or you have cold food that’s why only 4 stars

This restaurant was on my list for quite a while. Extra plus: fully vegan and nice family history behind the actual restaurant

Great interior, larger than expected and service superb.
Menu is huge - which made me question the quality first but quickly got convinced otherwise
Food was superb
Bao bun with crispy chicken was decent as were the steamed rice cakes. Banh Cuon is one of my fav viet dishes and I had it multiple times in Vietnam. If you have tried this place you know what’s it like in Vietnam. Love it when places create authentic dishes!
It comes with a higher price as well though. Reading other reviews I think it’s kinda sad to make prices go up for 10$ in one year each dish, but it is what it is

Food was stunning. Certainly serving a whole lot of different cuisines from Chinese to Thai to viet to Mongolian - but the viet dish I had plus the bao: amazing (maybe I’ll ask for sauce on the side though next time) overall a great meal and will be back because I need to try more dishes

Pros: Service!, Bao chicken and banh Cuon , Atmosphere
