Amazing vegan lunch and original menu - Edit
Finally tried out Broei and the location I never passed by is actually easily accesible as it's just next to Utrecht Vaartsche Rijn station.

Around noon you can choose for breakfast, brunch or lunch options. Vegan is clearly labeled and extra offers are written on a board. First I ordered a vegan chai latte but as it was not really tasty I didn't want to get my hopes up for the food. Additionally the vegan options felt limited as there was no vegan warm dish. Luckily because it made me explore the sandwishes and endulge the jackfruit sandwish. Also the crunchy chocolate dessert was delicious.
Update 2024:
We went for the 4 course meal. Each course had 2 options so we tried out all and shared the plates. Luckily because each round I had a clear favourite.
For starter that was the beet, then the soup, as a main the pumpkin and the apple dessert.
Service was very attentive, friendly and fast.

The soup was delicious and the Caesar salad was good and surprising with the oyster mushroom "bacon". I noted there are many desserts but I could no more indulge. They also brew their own Kombucha.

Top vegan restaurant in the city - Edit
I’ve been to Broei many times over the last years and where it has always been a nice option, it now became one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Also because they made the step to become fully plantbased. The food is always good and the restaurant has a good vibe. Also a place where I bring my non-veg friends and they’re never disappointed.

This place is just amazing. 100% plant based. Words cannot explain. The pancakes were delightfully fluffy and moorish / the shakshuka perfectly spiced / and the cinnamon bun so yummy and sticky! The coffee was fab too. Do yourself a favour and go!

Visited this place with a group of 12 people. Service was friendly en correct. We loved the place on the water and interior. In the group I was the only vegan and we had one gluten allergic person. But everyone liked the food very much and didn't miss the meat or cheese which some might have expected. So good promo for vegan food as I hoped for! We spend 3 hours at the end of an excursion day with work, which was very relaxed, no pressure. So really recommended.

Goede citroenlimonade met een subtiel kardemom smaakje. Gezellig interieur met houten kunstwerkjes aan de muur. Leuk dat kunstenaars hier een podium krijgen. Leuk een kaart waar je veel keus hebt!

UPDATE: this turned into my favorite brunch spot in Utrecht. I already liked their dinners but there's something about their breakfast / lunch options that are next level. Also the best vegan chai latte I've found in the Netherlands so far can be found here.

The food looks and tastes great and it's nice inside with a good atmosphere. The staff are nice as well. For dinner you had to take a 2-course menu, which is good to know in advance if you are going with a group.

I was quite surprised by the quality of the food, though the menu is a bit boring/not very special (as as well as the presentation of the dishes). The service was good, and the location is great if you want to get out of the city centre for awhile. And unlike a lot of plant based restaurants in Utrecht, Broei actually has a lot of space to sit inside and outside.

Great atmosphere but a bit overpriced - Edit
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and full of plants. The menu allows choosing between 3- up to 5-course meals with two options for each course and the possibility to upgrade the dessert to a plate of cheese for an extra 4€. The dishes are very beautifully served but I found them quite un-substantial, eg mostly consisting of light veg with very little protein or even carbs such as rice or other grains. So after a 3-course meal I was still craving some protein. The dishes in the 4th course (which my friends took) wouldn’t have solved that problem as that was essentially more light veg. But the bread with olive (starter) was top quality and the drinks were fantastic. So highly recommended if you want a good food experience but aren’t hungry.

Er is keuzen uit 3, 4 of een 5 gangen menu. Groenten hebben de hoofdrol in het menu. Er worden heerlijke gerechten gemaakt met lokale producten en seizoensgroenten. De bloemkool-wings zijn een aanrader! De bediening is erg vriendelijk, we hebben een fijne avond gehad.
