Delicious cakes & Lunch - Edit
Unfortunately we arrived too late, just before closing time, to order food from the (closed) kitchen on a Carnavals day. The interior looks very charming, the vibes amazing. It seems a very popular place to be. We took some sweets/ cakes to go. We will definitely come back to South Limburg to get some more food.

We went for a hike in the beautiful surroundings of St. Geertruid with my family, father and our dog. My father did not know it was all vegan and was very surprised. We all had a fantastic lunch with delicious food and drinks.

Diverse heerlijke gerechten - Edit
Leuke ambiance met vriendelijk personeel. We waren met 6 personen en hebben veel verschillende voor- en hoofdgerechten kunnen proberen. Alles was heerlijk. Er zaten verrassende gerechten tussen.

Nice little place near Maastricht - Edit
I visited this nice little place with a friend of mine who isn't vegan, and even he was impressed by that tasty food. I will come back for sure, if I'm close to it.

The staff rounded it all off. They were super nice and helpful.

In België is een volledig plantaardig restaurant op het platteland wellicht onbestaande.
Read moreGroot was onze verbazing dat dit hier in Nederlands Limburg wel lukt.
Vanuit dit restaurant vertrekken er heel wat wandelingen, de goed uitgeschreven routes zijn hier verkrijgbaar.
Net als een menukaart vol lekkere vegan gerechten.
Alles wat we bestelden was heel lekker, super vriendelijke bediening!

Mn lief at een burger met zoete aardappelwedges. Veel gebruik gemaakt van al kant en klaar producten (mayo, aardappelfriet; burgers, wedges) maar prachtig geserveerd en oog voor detail. This is a must see restaurant. It's hidden in a small village, so you don't just bump i to it.

I am used to ridiculous prices coming from a big city, but this value for money goes the other way. That's a definitive advantage of visiting restaurants in the country side.
Absolutely worth a big detour is you're in Limburg. You will be rewarded with goed food and a scenic drive.

Breakaway is gelegen in een pittoresk Limburgs dorpje, het traditioneel geveganiseerd eten is zeer lekker, vullend en voor een zeer correcte prijs. Het menu is variabel en het personeel vriendelijk. Wonderful vegan surprise in the countryside - Edit
In the middle of nowhere (St. Gertruid, no offense meant) we found a wonderful vegan restaurant. The food is truly great and the staff is very friendly and responsive.
Read moreWe had a warming green curry soup (very tasty, not too spicy) for starters and 'Zoer 'Vleisj' as main course. This is a typical Limburg dish, normally with beef, this time made from oyster mushrooms: creative and delicious.
Everything very reasonably priced. A place to come back to.

Loved the look of the cafe, the welcome and service was very friendly and we promised to visit another time so we could sample a meal. For now we took a couple of cakes to have on the ferry home. Very nice they were 😋

For my birthday I was surprised with a dinner at Breakaway, which I had wanted to visit for a while and it did not disappoint.

There were tasty local kombucha's. For starters we had the celeriac Carpaccio and curry soup. Both Tasty but not that special.
As a main we had the taco with cauliflower wings which was delicious and the breakaway salad which was okay.
As a dessert we had a tasty sugar free cake.
It was very calm, so hopefully others also find their way to this hidden gem.

Heerlijk geluncht vanmiddag bij breakaway. Een kaart vol met heerlijke plantaardige gerechten; het was moeilijk kiezen. Wat een goeie aanwinst voor Zuid Limburg! We komen zeker terug hier.

This is how a succes full vegan must be organized. Everything IS vegan, but they make the menu so that it is inviting for everyone. And that is clever. People are biased and with a clear and open menu with only ingredients and under the card plantbased: that is the reason that passengers like it!

We went here every day during our short holiday, because we loved it so much. The owner is a lovely person with a warm and sweet personality. The other staff is very nice as well.
Read moreThis place is gezellig and offers an extensive menu with a.o. bowls/salads, burgers, bites and pies. Also, the drinks menu is extensive. I really like that there are so many dishes with good protein sources (most restaurants in Limburg do this poorly).
Since we tried so many dishes and drinks (see my pictures for reviews per item), we could compare them. I really liked the spicy burger and poke bowl, because they had good flavours and protein sources. My favourite cocktails were whiskey sour and mojito, although I also enjoyed the rhubarb beer. For dessert/pie, I would recommend the lemon pie due to its fresh and mildly sweet flavour.
If you’re up for an unusual dish, please try the ‘zoervleisj’. It’s a traditional dish in Zuid-Limburg and originally made with stewed beef. Breakaway made a version with oyster mushrooms that is good and with a better sauce than I remember from my childhood (I grew up here). It has a warm/clovey and slightly sour taste, so you probably never had something like this before!
Apart from the nice restaurant, it’s also equipped well for cyclers and hikers. You can fill your bottle at a special tap and get routes for hikes. We tried a few and they were nice (although 1 path was too overgrown with stingy plants and we had to seek an alternative path).
