Best Vegan Restaurant in Italy?

There was an award showing that this restaurant was voted to be the best vegan restaurant in Italy in 2017.

I expected a bit much because of this and ended up being slightly disappointed.

The atmosphere here was wonderful, and it's such a busy place for lunch with lots of businessmen coming here for burgers!

I guess we should have paid attention to what they were ordering instead of getting the salad and the gnocchi. The salad was quite boring for the price, and the gnocchi were good but nothing out of the ordinary. The dessert, however, was delicious. I had the raspberry chocolate cheesecake and it was all that I expected from a vegan dessert in Bologna!

I think you should give this place a try but order the more popular dishes that they seem to have perfected there. That way, the money will be well worth spent.

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, Professional staff, Excellent presentation

Cons: Expensive, More about presentation than taste

Hidden, all vegan gem

In a quiet street just off the main Piazza, this place was a great find for lunch. I had the tagliatelle with tomato sauce and the chocolate pudding (more like a mousse) for dessert. The whole menu is vegan, and the waitress says it changes quite often.

Pros: All vegan

Cons: A bit expensive

We had a delicious lunch here. Varied choices on the lunch menu which is all vegan. We didn’t have room for dessert but they sounded amazing too. Friendly staff who speak good English.

Very disappointing

I was in Bologna this lunchtime and felt I had to try this restaurant. I saw that it had mixed reviews but decided to go anyway....I walked in quite humid conditions for just under 20 minutes from my hotel near the train station. When I arrived I was told to choose a table, but was then asked to move. The food really lacked flavour and I added everything possible to bring this out. I decided not to order dessert as thought it might lead to further disappointment plus they charge for filtered water and there’s a cover charge. I found the cashier so abrupt. So disappointed and would definitely not recommend.

Pros: All of the dishes were vegan, Beautiful decor, Seating outside

Cons: Expensive, Abrupt staff who didn’t smile, Tasteless food

Simply spectacular!

This is a Gourmet plant-based restaurant in Bologna center. The courses are exquisite, balanced, beautifully presented and abundant enough. The menu changes depending on the fresh ingredients of the day. The technique is precise in both obtaining an exceptional flavour and an incredible texture. This is one of those restaurants that make you say: "Who the hell needs animal products". The photos attached to this review talk for themselves, the beetroot entree decorated with dried onions, the Portobello funghi, the pumpkin cream served on red radish with dried orange and ginger, the beetroot with a barbecue sauce on cream of beans and quinoa accompanied with a salty quinoa flat bread. Finally the desserts were a very particular strudel filled with a delicious cream and a blackberry cheesecake. This is a must, for every vegan and not.

Pros: all vegan, all excellent

Cons: a little pricy but it is fair

Beautiful restaurant, fancy food!

The restaurant aesthetics are lovely and they have lots of outdoor seating. The menu looked delicious, but a little expensive. I had the tempeh dish which was very tasty but quite small. I think it's probably one of Bologna's more upmarket vegan eateries.

The best vegan food I have ever tasted

I am Italian . I cook. I have been omnivore for 39 years . I know what good food is. I have been vegan for 2 years and a half. I always say that this is because I do not live in Italy anymore. Well, if I lived in Bologna, i’d be happily vegan thanks to botanica lab. Preparing tortelloni with the right texture with no egg? Having them tasteful with no cheese?
They can’t fool a local. The food is worth every penny. It is not fast food it is in the heart of an historical city in Italy. None can say it is expendive, for italian standards.

Pros: Subtleties in the preparation of dishes, Kindness of the waitress, Good wine

Cons: None

I love you!

Pros: Tout

Most disappointing meal I have had

I had high expectations for this place after finding out that it was or it claimed to be one of the best vegan restaurants in Italy but it definitely is nowhere close. I love healthy vegan food but it needs to have taste. Good and healthy vegan food is supposed be a merry combination of all the right vegetables so that the dish will be bursting with flavours. The quinoa burger had absolutely no taste and I felt bad for my non vegan friend who ordered it. My funghi ravioli and an odd and bland taste. I’ve had a lot of good vegan food in Europe and in Italy and this place was no where close. Not to mention it was expensive too. We didn’t plan on going to this restaurant as they said they were all booked out but then they called backed to say two people had canceled. We went expecting a full house but there were only us.

Pros: Cute decoration

Cons: Bad food, Expensive, Not worth it

"high class" food with disappointing service

We went there for dinner and had one main course. Which is not al lot of food since, this i would describe this place as high class gastronomy (but we already knew that before). In general the food was good quality.
But since it's "high class" we were quite disappointed that first they changed our table right next to the quite loud kitchen (in fairness we did not reserve a table, but our first assigned table was still empty when we left). Then the waitress gave us an old menu, so we got different food than we had orded (and since we didn't want them to throw it away, we sticked with it). The taste was still good, but if i decide to go to a place that expensive, i really would like to get the right menu in the first place. Additionally if such a mistake happens in other restaurants, they usually offer some sort of compensation, which they didn't.

Pros: high food quality

Cons: staff made mistakes , noisy next to the kitchen

Good but expensive!!

The main issue: prices were high for the portion sizes. I had a ravioli dish (a main), and I hoped that for ~€13 plus cover charge that it would at least be a fair potion size. Nope, in fact i coudldn’t help but feel sad when I saw how little there was for the price.
I didn’t leave hungry, but I didn’t leave full either. I didn’t get dessert because I though the same thing would happen.

The food itself was actually incredible, really interesting, and definitely good, specialised vegan food.

Service was also good, comfortable ambiance, perhaps a bit too posh for my liking (but that’s subjective).

Just makes sure your expectations match with what they offer - if you want to pay for a dish and hope that it fills you up, don’t come here. If you’re happy to spend lots of money on lots of different things, go nuts it will be great, and as a poor uni student, I envy you.

Also if you really want to go, absolutely reserve a place. I was very lucky to get a spot when I went in without a reservation.

Pros: Really good food, Good staff, Nice ambiance

Cons: Expensive for what you get

Great Contemporary Whole-Plant-Based Restaurant

Beautiful restaurant, contemporary but cosy ambience inside a beautiful old building with very comfy seating inside and attractive pavement seating outside. Situated in pretty pedestrian walk-through lane a minutes from the main square of Piazza Maggiore.
Menu was in Italian but staff explained in detail what was in each dish, pus English version is on their website.
Food was all really delicious, we had lunch of 2 Buddha Bowls, Quinoa Cous Cous and Rice Paper Vegetable
Spring Rolls with Spicy Peanut Dip followed by Chocolate Banana Cheesecake. Highly recommended - going back for dinner tonight :)
According to certificates on the wall, the chef has trained at a Californian Plant Based culinary school, so the food is delicious and nutrient-dense. Highly recommended.
Dinner update: all really good (Quinoa Burger, Buckwheat Pancakes w. Purple Potato) but the Buckwheat Walnut Apricot Tarte appetiser was amazing!
Definitely has Wow! Factor :)

Pros: Food! (Taste, presentation & nutritional value), Decor, Staff

Cons: Fills quickly at lunch time, Need to book for an outside table in evening as it

charming place

We got some food to go - a burger, risotto, and two desserts. The entrees were very light on the salt which was confusing at first but really grew on me. The desserts, which were sort of cheesecake like, were fantastic. Host was very helpful.

Great experience

I went here few days ago and had a good experience. It's a tiny space, cute and friendly, with a high level raw food specialties.
I ordered a healthy pureed pea and mint soup with seeds, falafel with vegetables and spicy sauce, tasteful vegan spring rolls with leek sprouts, and a fabulous chocolate cake.
I loved this place and I'm exited to try more.

Pros: excellent food quality, helpful staff, reasonably priced

Cons: opening hours
