Do not let the fact that it’s a bar that serves bar food let you sleep on this place. The food is amazing! Highly recommend the hot sticks- have been vegan 6 years and have NEVER had anything even comparable. Wings were legit too. Sauce, texture, taste- all top tier.

The food is SO GOOD and the atmosphere is cool asf. Great service, fun music, and incredible vegan eats. My go-to is a cheeze burger with bakon and fries (the thrilling bakon is amazing) and a lavender mimosa. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Was in town for a bachelorette party and we’re all vegan. We got in late Friday night and wanted to go somewhere to kick off the weekend. We selected Black Water and arrived around 11pm. Quiet in this area of town and the bar had 10-15 people. We ordered food to take back to the hotel. Waited about 10-15 minutes which was not bad at all. Ordered the buffalo wings, bbq wings, and the mozzarella sticks. Ate it at the hotel a short while later and everything was delicious. We had no complaints whatsoever. We hoped to get back again before heading back to NY but there were just too many vegan spots to hit. We’ll be back next time we’re in Portland!

It never ceases to delight me looking at a menu where I can eat all the things. Great beer list. Friendly service. Love the chill dive bar vibe. Last time I was there they played animal videos on the tvs and it was just super sweet.

Punk rock vegan utopia. BBQ WINGS & KALE SALAD are my go to’s. Weekend brunch specials are also very exciting. I love this place and the people that run it! The new venue is incredible make sure you check out the record store next door. Love the boozy coffee drinks too.

I had heard about this place from a lot of my friends that live in pdx and ended up getting takeout while doing a roadtrip. We got the pierogies, which are one of my favorite snacks so i loved them i just wish the dipping sauce was flavorful. The caesar salad, which was underwhelming but not bad. The mac n cheese, which i already wasn't a fan of and then we saw a hair in it. And the cheeseburger, which is a classic and was pretty good. I would definitely try dining in next time and see if that makes a difference with my experience.

Absolutely loved Black Water Bar. You HAVE TO get the wings. Outstanding. This place was so fun, pretty chill on a weeknight, good drinks and we loved our food. I just love that all vegan dive punk bars exist. I’ll be coming back every time I’m in Portland!

I’ve wanted to visit here for quite a while. We were in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. I had the tofu (chicken style) sandwich which was quite good. I ordered the special drink which sounded really great. The description did not say that it had smoky chili salt on the rim…which pretty much ruined the grapefruit taste of the drink. That was a minor disappointment and I am still giving it five stars. The rest of the experience and the service was great. There are already so many photos of food, so I decided to add some photos of the quirky vending machine!

Black Water takes me back to the 90's when I would perform in punk clubs up and down the West Coast. The laid-back atmosphere and punk-rock memorabilia provides the eyes with much to look at.
Read moreI've eaten at Black Water several times and it's a treat. Every time I've eaten there the wait staff has been super friendly and made sure we were taken care of. The food is wonderful and is full of flavor and substance. The food might be vegan, but you sure aren't going to leave hungry.
Pros: Very good Food, Super chill atmosphere, Perfect Portions for the money
Cons: Have to Order at the Bar, No kids (which could be a "pro" to some), If Punk Rock offends you, don't go here!

Read moreI’ve explored most the menu and it is all crazy satisfying bar food fare. Extra crispy tots. Tasty dips. Their seitan is made in house. Love the burgers and the french dip especially, the au jus is so flavorful. They know what they’re doing.
They also have great line-ups of live music, drag shows, DJ individuals doing the DJ thing.

Title says it. I was visiting Portland last year and wanted a veggie burger, but basically every vegan place serves Beyond or Impossible-- I have been a vegan for a long time and I am not interested in eating anything by Beyond or Impossible. Was thrilled to find a place. The food was good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is fun and plays metal and punk.

I enjoyed the vibe here! The staff was super friendly and the food/drinks were good! The nachos sub soy curls instead of seitan was DELICIOUS! They also have a lot of fun cocktails and mixed drinks that you sometimes can’t find vegan! Definitely recommend!

I came around here before a flight back home during the middle of the day to catch bite to eat and wow! The music was cool, the staff was nice, and the food was honestly great! I hope to see places like this open up outside of PDX too!
