The nicest owners and great food - Edit
Had a super great experience at Black Leaf Vegan. The owners are super friendly and helpful and so nice to talk to. We ordered the loaded nachos and red velvet cake, and she gave us a smoothie on the house. The nachos were absolutely incredible, and the portion was massive.

I went a few month ago, and I believe I got the crab cakes or shrimp cakes, whatever they were, they were amazing. It also came with Mac and cheese which was great. Brought my Omni friend and he loved the nachos. Awesome restaurant, owner was so friendly.

Best Breakfast in Indy! - Edit
The bagel sandwich was fantastic! Amd the owners couldn't be more helpful. Wish we lived closer, but I can't wait to see what they bring to the state fair this year!

Worst ever! - Edit
If I could give zero stars I would, but unfortunately the lowest I can give here is 2 stars (as a default limit 🤦🏻♂️). We waited for over an hour and a half and never even received as much as a glass of water. It was the absolute worst experience I have ever had in my life. We ended up asking for our money back because we had to leave, but we never ate anything- it was a total waste of time. I’ll never go back and I recommend everyone else do the same.

Definitely recommend the bacon ranch burger. It’s got teriyaki sauce on it and is seriously to die for. The Mac & cheese is also really tasty, and we got the cinnamon roll as the dessert of the day

Black Leaf - Edit
They were out of a few things when I went.
Read moreI ended up trying the Crabless Crab Cake sandwich. It comes with ranch (which I don’t like) so I subbed for mayo. It was good.
I disliked their seasoned fries. They didn’t taste fresh. They tasted like they were reheated from a frozen state.
The potato salad was different but good.
The Apple Pineapple Smoothie was delicious.
I didn’t like the Biscoff cake. It had the consistency of a typical gluten-free dough. I don’t know if it was gluten-free, but that was what it reminded me of - thick and grainy.

While many people just love this place, I have yet to be impressed. I’ve tried to give them several chances and each time they are out of several options or when you do finally get your food it’s lukewarm. None of the menu options are particularly creative. I can make better food at home.

My family stopped in for breakfast. The staff was such a nice lady. She was right the breakfast chicken sandwich was the way to go. We loved everything we tried. The pineapple cake was soooo good.

Vegan cafe inside an apartment complex. The nachos were good but the chip/sauce ration was off. I’ve had better jack fruit sandwiches too.

But it looked like they had a lot of good things to try and I would definitely go back and try the other foods if I lived here.

Would be a regular (if I lived here) - Edit
The house-made crab cake was great and my dining partner really like the bacon burger. The cider drink was good as well but, for my tastes, the Mac N Cheese was just ok. The lady who must either be the owner or one of family was there and was super friendly. Someday I will go back and try some of the other menu items so I would say it is worth a try!

WOW!!!! This family owned café is a local treasure! The food is great and the owners friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is fun and lively. We have traveled to a lot of places and always try to find locally owned establishments to try. This is one of our favorites!
Read moreAnother aspect I liked is that it is a Black owned company. Black persons and Black owned businesses and companies are often excluded from vegan spaces (for reasons I do not understand).
If you like supporting local businesses, Black owned businesses, and vegan establishments, give this place a try.

Cons: Prices are a little high. , Music was a little loud making conversation hard

Saved Me! - Edit
This place saved me while visiting Indianapolis while on a business trip. It was relatively close to downtown and it was I was grateful to count on 100% vegan food while here. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and delicious. If I ever come back this will be my first stop. If you ever visit or if you live here it should be your first stop too!

Zero stars if possible - Edit
I am convinced that they have friends and family writing false good reviews for them. I'm in my 40s and have worked at restaurants for decades, so I give a LOT of grace. This, however, was the worst dining experience of my life. EVERY SINGLE ASPECT was AWFUL. The service, the food, the staff, the wait time...awful. The cider is good, but we ended up trashing $75 worth of food, part of it cold, after waiting well over an hour for a small order. They were beyond rude every step of the way. They had a young child in the kitchen, which is ridiculously unsafe as well. Another patron stopped us in the parking lot to tell us how she saw how long we waited and how rude we were treated, and that she had just eaten by herself after they messed up her daughter's order and made her late to work. A simple professional "heads up" about the food wait time, and we could have had other options. Instead (even though we were obviously not the only guest with problems), they took the time to be rude to us, then emailed me to defend their actions, lying in the process. They were embarrassed that their service and food were awful and didn't want to admit it...and if they had offered to fix anything, Maybe it would have been the silver lining. Instead, they caused my friend's panic attack and wasted all of our money for our daughter's 6th birthday, who spent hours still starving after leaving, and upset that her aunt left in tears. DON'T GO THERE. There are several other vegan small businesses within 10 miles to give your money to. I've been vegan over 40 years and could give anyone a list of other establishments if desired.

I like the food and the little space a lot. It's Back and Women owned too which I love to support, but they randomly will not open on time or will close with no sign or post on social media

Promising start - Edit
I stopped by in the afternoon on my way out of downtown; it’s near the highway on-ramp. I parked in a metered spot outside, but the building also has a parking garage (I’m not sure how many visitor spaces are available). I was really looking forward to my visit, so I was disappointed that there was no one working when I arrived. The owner had left to pick up his kids. I am okay with supporting a small, family-run business, but a person in a hurry might not have wanted to wait. I got the crab cake and the jackfruit bbq. The gluten-free bagel was unexpected, but I was glad that I could share something vegan and gluten-free with my husband. Overall, the flavor was good, but the portions are pretty small for the price and the presentation. There’s a 2$ upcharge for gluten-free bread, by the way.
