Food was beautiful and well made. I ordered two different rolls and they were both nice. I do prefer more traditional rice rolls, so it was not the kind of food that I like most, nevertheless it's a matter of taste, so I am still giving them 5 stars.
Pros: Fully vegan, Well made and beautiful food, Nice place overall
Cons: Service could be better, More traditional options would be nice, A bit pricey

THE BEST
The sushi is the star here, the zalmon texture is close to the organic life but the flavor was lacking, compared to other visits. The roll was good but it wouldn't be able to stand by itself without the soy sauce. The dark brown sushi was better overall, including the construction -many of my rainbow roll pieces came apart even before adding soy sauce- but still not an A, more like B- or C+. The sake and the dessert were by far the best out of the whole experience. The sake looked like lychee juice and the alcohol level was low, compared to other sakes I've had in the past, with a very delicate flavor profile. The cheesecake is better than the matcha ice cream, but if you do have room, order two! It's very creamy, tastes similar to ruby cacao, and is the reason any chocolate lover MUST order!
THE WORST
It is obviously not my first visit here and neither to their now defunct SoHo location, but the excellent menu and flavors keep us Vegan folks back. My very first visit was quite a memorable event... At other times the service has been at least warm enough to match the caliber of the food, but not now. The service was transactional at best, I had to ask for my table to be cleaned (they didn't, just picked up the dish) and pretty much he was either checking out his mobile or chatting with his colleague. The ambiance is blah, it needs a good playlist. The cook or whoever seems to be the link between the kitchen and the front of the house was more amiable in delivering the dishes than the server who took the orders. I'm not planning on returning in the foreseeable future.
Pros: Varied sushi flavors, Delicious dessers
Cons: Orders may take awhile, Very transactional service

MUST TRY THE SPICY SALMON ROLL - Edit
One of the best rolls I've ever had. I'm still not over how good it was, how perfect the consistency, the taste... Wow! Even my non-vegan friend was amazed. It is a premium roll, so it is more expensive, but definitely worth it. We ordered other things as well, which weren't as impressive, but still very good. My favorites after the spicy salmon rolls were the beef dumplings and the mushroom rolls - both delicious. Spicy tuna and charred avocado rolls were just okay, nothing special. It was a lot of food and the portions were quite filling, so unfortunately we had no space left for dessert. I would definitely come back to try other items from their menu!

Best Sushi in New York City - Edit

Read moreThe decor and service were both excellent. It feels like you're dining high end with prices that honestly match any other restaurant in New York.
We started with their Chick'n Dumplings ($11) and Spicy Salmon Tartare ($18), and both were incredible. The dumplings were some of the best I've had and the tartare was impeccable. This was my favorite dish of the evening.
For our main rolls, we tried the Spicy Jackfruit Crab ($17) and the Smoky Dragon ($17), and let me tell you - definitely some of the best vegan sushi I've ever had. The smoky dragon had a complex flavor profile with the eggplant unagi and ponzu glaze. It was simply delicious and both rolls were top notch.
Don't forget dessert - their Ube Cheesecake ($14) was absolute heaven. The cashew-based treat was perfect to close out a wonderful meal.
The only thing I wish we had was an AYCE option because the sushi is just stand out amazing. I will definitely try to come back the next time I'm in New York. Can y'all franchise out to the West Coast, please?

Fabulous - you should go. To save $$ go during weekday lunch - Edit
Fabulous.Recommend highly both as casual / family or business lunch or dinner. I don’t eat sea life but the salmon even smelled like salmon (in a good way, if that makes sense). Texture and taste are A . Money saving tip is to go M-F from 11:30am - 3pm where you can get two basic items for $17 (would ordinarily be $23 or $24). The basic items cover numerous include rolls and gyoza. Plenty of choices. And a sophisticated menu higher up the price point as well. Overall prices are good for this quality and NYC.

Best Vegan Sushi Anywhere - Edit
Last summer my wife and I went to New York and dined at Beyond Sushi for the first time. As my review then stated, Chef Vadkin and his restaurant are amazing. We went back in June, with a friend, and dined again. It's still amazing in every way. The Cauliflower Wings, a huge portion which come in a basket, are deliciously addicting. And the Tuna Poke is something only an expert chef like Guy Vadkin could pull off. Kudos!

Phenomenal sushi - Edit
We tried a few sushi items which were truly phenomenal. The dumplings were also nice. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious. The staff were also lovely and attentive. The music was quite loud, but our server kindly turned it down a bit. Prices were really fair, particularly given how much work clearly goes into making the sushi. Highly recommend this place!

Some of the best vegan sushi I've ever had, with amazing desserts and cocktails as well. The Spicy Jackfruit Crab roll was amazing, as was the matcha affogato and ube cashew cheesecake. Service was quick and friendly. I couldn't have asked for a better plant-based sushi experience. Painfully loud music - Edit
Had a horrible, literally painful experience here yesterday. The mushroom bowl dish was tasty and the service was friendly. But the music was so sadistically loud I literally left as soon as I could, and with a bad headache. I was there at about 4:00 pm on a weekday when the restaurant only had a few occupied tables. But still the server refused to turn down the music volume when I asked nicely. She said the owner has a policy that staff isn't allowed to turn down the music.

Pricey and kind of hit or miss - Edit
Been a few times between various trips to New York. It's good enough that I keep coming back, though some entrees are better than others. The appeal here is just as much novelty as it is taste. Vegan caviar that looks and pops in your mouth like salmon roe is worth trying! I highly recommend the ginger "beef" dumplings.
