Outstanding Experience

Small, hole-in-the-wall bar and restaurant, run by a very personable bartender. There's only a few seats available, but the proprietor is very accommodating to guests.

Tempura soba is excellent (I had the cold double tempura portion, which was plentiful but not too much), my friend (not vegan) had a hot curry udon and was very satisfied. The lemon sour is perfectly refreshing.

I was delighted by the owner playing Jazz vinyls, it made for an excellent atmosphere.

Plan to spend some time here, the music and good drinks will draw you in and make you want to relax. There isn't much in the immediate area for tourists, but its well worth the detour if you're planning to visit the Meiji Jingu or Shibuya before or after (I went between trips to both, and found it perfectly refreshing, it made an 8 hour day of sightseeing feel like nothing).

Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Refreshing and satisfying

A special place for vegan food in Tokyo

This was not at all what I was expecting for a soba restaurant, as it’s really more of a bar (and one with amazing vibes).

I’m not sure what it’s like during the day, but I went reasonably late on a Sunday night, surprised that a soba restaurant would still be open at a late hour. The owner has created a really stylish and welcoming environment where he is spinning some of his vinyl collection, obviously enjoying himself and creating a great space where everybody was happily chatting to all the other guests. He was even happy to take musical requests.

I’m not sure if I got very lucky, but I happened to be there when he was serving miso ramen instead of soba, and it was superb! Though I heard from the customer next to me that the soba is also excellent, and the other reviews here seem to back that up.

Pros: Excellent dishes, Friendly owner, Great atmosphere

Cons: A bit of a walk from Shimokitazawa

Highly recommend!

Finding somewhere that serves good vegan soba noodles is not the easiest, but this is an absolute gem. Both the food and the atmosphere are incredible, I enjoyed it so much that I went back a second time during a 10 day trip.
It's a small restaurant, but this adds to the charm. The menu is in English, and the owner is not only fluent in English, but also really cool and friendly.
It's a little out of the way, but close enough to train stations that it's worth the detour (Shimokitazawa is a worthwhile trip too). Do check opening times and plan accordingly as it is small, and not open every day, so you might struggle to walk in and get a seat.

The next time I find myself in Tokyo, this will be my first stop.

Pros: Great music, Casual, comfortable atmosphere, Delicious food

Best soba I’ve ever had

It was my last proper meal in Japan and it was great! The place is tiny so you can chat with the owner while you have your meal. He is really nice! The music was also good so I’ve just forgot about the fact that I had to stand (there’s only one table available)

Pros: Best soba , Music, Kindness of the owner

Amazing vegan soba and cute vibes

Sweet little (very small) spot in Kitazawa with excellent soba. I wouldn’t recommend coming with a big group because it’s a very small space, but it is the best soba I’ve had in Japan. The owner is darling and gave me loads of jazz club recommendations, and the hot tempura soba was so great I came back for more!

Great soba!

A super cute neighborhood place, stop by for lunch if you’re in the area (they close at 4pm). We ate standing at the bar since the single table in the back was taken. The soba was light and flavorful, the coffee was good, and the vegan deserts were really tasty. The owner was welcoming and nice to chat with - altogether a great vibe.

Side note - they are open late for dinner on nights where there’s a full or new moon.

Pros: Friendly staff, Classic Japanese flavors but vegan!, Great atmosphere

Delicious and super friendly

Very small shop in Kitazawa with delicious soba and very friendly owner.
There are only 4 seats inside (including 2 at the bar). The menu is short and everything is super fresh. We tried both the hot soba with wakame, and the hot soba with wakame and yellow tempura. Both were absolutely amazing! The owner speaks perfectly English so we enjoyed our meal at the bar, chatting with him about Japanese culture and food. He also listens to great music on an old vinyl station. You can also find cookies, coffee, and wine.

Pros: Delicious soba , Super friendly owner

Hello Ana How is going your Anmitsu tour in kyoto.

It is possible to enter more 7people in my cafe.
The window can be completely opened and everyone can eat there as well. I will show you next time maybe.

I hope you will find nice things in japan. See you.

Elevate Your Vegan Experience with Japan's Timeless Soba at Ayler!

"Discover the elegance of Japanese cuisine at Ayler, where vegan soba takes center stage. Unlike ramen, soba represents a more refined and traditional side of Japanese food culture, and Ayler brings this to life with a modern, vegan twist. The standing counter harks back to the Edo-era street stalls, offering a uniquely Japanese experience with a contemporary flair. The soba is light yet satisfying, with a depth of flavor that showcases the artistry of simplicity. Add to that the warm, welcoming staff and a laid-back jazzy atmosphere, and you've got a dining experience that stands out in Tokyo. Perfect for vegans, food lovers, and anyone eager to explore the best of Japan's culinary heritage."

Pros: Vegan Tempra, Vegan Soba Noodle, Friendly

Tachigui vegan soba!!

There’s a Japanese style of eating soba noodles standing up and this owner has made it into a vegan version.
They offer small snacks and coffee along with delicious vegan soba noodles. You can listen to some amazing records that the owner has and it’s quite remarkable. It is a fairly moderate size so you may have to wait depending on how crowded it gets. Fairly close from the station and the owner is really chill and friendly. Highly recommended. #Veganuary
