Our favourite in Freiburg! - Edit
This was our favourite place in Freiburg, so we went there several times during our stay. There are a few hearty sandwiches and we tried both the Greek ones and the Kimchi ones which were all delicious. The cakes were lovely, too, as were the hot drinks - especially the Chai!
Read moreBut even more, we enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere of this place. Relaxed, welcoming, authentic, and a very pretty interior which is not overdone.
If only we could take Au Contraire home with us!
Be warned, though: You should reserve a table because it tends to be crowded. We went there in the morning when it was still quite empty, but towards noon it always got packed and we saw people queuing when we passed by in the afternoon.
Pros: Delicious food, Welcoming, wonderful atmosphere, Lovely location and interior
Cons: Some of the cakes are only available on weekends, The choice could be a little bigger

We sat outside on the patio, overlooking a small back alley of Freiburg and the small river passing through.
Read moreI took a hot chocolate (3,50€) and it was nice. We did not try the cake, but they had many to chose from.
Their standard is to serve everything with oat milk, and if you want cows milk you have to ask for it and pay 50ct extra - I love this! They said they had made good experiences with this strategy and want to keep it up.
Pros: super friendly staff, good selection of drinks and cake, oat milk for everything

Simple delicious lunch - Edit
Located in the old city centre we found this lovely little local bar. Their menu is 100% vegan and carries different sandwiches and sweets of which we tried and loved the hummus and babaganous. Original drinks, you should defenitely try the cold brew tonic. The staff was more then friendly.

Modernes Cafe in der Freiburger Altstadt mit schöner Terasse. Alle Speisen sind vegan und die Kaffeegetränke sind standardmäßig mit Hafermilch, Kuhmilch kostet extra. Die belegten Brote sind sehr lecker und die Bedienung war sehr nett. Wir haben uns hier sehr wohl gefühlt und unser Frühstück genossen. Für einen perfekten Cafebesuch hätten wir uns noch eine ein bisschen größere Kuchenauswahl oder ein größeres Frühstücksangebot gewünscht. Als wir da waren, gab es dreierlei Cupcakes mit Beeren und zwei Rührkuchen. Den Cheesecake aus einer der anderen Bewertungen hätte ich wahnsinnig gerne probiert.

Eigentlich ist hier alles Vegan. Standardmäßig werden alle Getränke mit Hafermilch zubereitet. Man hat aber die Option Kuhmilch zu wählen, für einen Aufpreis. So herum sollte das überall sein 😁

One of the three lovely owners, Lou, Sarina, or Amka, will welcome you warmly and advice you professionally on your choice, since they are really in good cocktails and coffee. We live nearby and can't stand a single day without passing by and enjoying this new jewel of Freiburg's gastronomy.
