Slightly Choppy Waters

As I expectantly sauntered into this particular establishment, a warm greeting and what at first glance appeared to be an enticing spread lay in wait. Looking every bit the part, the dining space was as one would expect from a place such as this: chic, modern and stylish. All bode well for a satisfying morning’s work. Yet, despite this early promise, it just felt as though the meal never quite sparked into life.
Not that there was anything inherently wrong with all that I had, indeed I enjoyed near enough everything of offer, I just felt it was missing that inexorable element that would have taken it to the next level. Perhaps I was slightly galled by that fact there were no milk alternatives freely available. While it’s a not a prerequisite for most buffet spots, and the staff certainly weren’t shy in providing it upon request, for an upscale restaurant such as this I feel it should be.
Lactate-free laments aside, I do feel obligated to highlight the aforementioned positives, as there were some particularly fine dishes to be found here and chiefly within some oft overlooked places, namely the fruit and salad sections.
My initial foray saw me return with a fabulously bright fruit salad and creamy chia pudding. Moving onto the cooked elements, having negotiated some earnestly serviceable selections, I found excellence in the locale that housed the Indian delicacies; the Dahl being best of a quality trio. Dipping back into the chilled area, a nutty quinoa salad and a very welcome olive tapenade were the objects of my affection above all others. Finally, seeking sweet relief, wholemeal toasted buns liberally doused in maple syrup and chocolate sauce seemed appropriate.
Again, there was nothing outright egregious to mention about my experience, but I would still be hard-pressed to say that I would return here unless absolutely necessary.
