Definitely unique

I got a sesame bagel with vegan cc and tomato. I ordered it with vegan scallion, but they were out. I was very open to enjoying some sourdough bagels, but I did not realize they would toast the [censored] out of it. My guess is that they are otherwise too chewy. They weren’t exactly bad—I actually liked their vegan shmear way more than tofutti—but it wasn’t a very enjoyable eating experience. It was like eating a tomato cheese toastie with oil dripping down my fingers. Definitely unique, but not sure if it’s what I want in a bagel.

Sourdough bagels

NYC bagels are almost always vegan (unless they are Montreal-style bagels). What makes Apollo Bagels special is that the bagels are sourdough.

This place--which is geared for takeout, not eating in--can have huge lines, and the bagels indeed taste good. From a vegan standpoint, however (which is how I rate them for HappyCow), there is little that makes this place special: they only have one type of vegan cream cheese, which is less than most other NYC bagel places.

For bagels alone, my personal favorite bagel place in NYC is PopUp Bagels, where you always get warm, hot bagels (but which also has limited vegan smears). If you want vegan bagel sandwiches, places like Thompkin Square Bagels or Utopia Bagels are a better bet.
