Wonderful - Edit
Yes, it's expensive, but it's also very good. Portions on spot on; quality over quantity. Atmosphere is excellent, service is terrific, but you pay for it.

Absolutely a New Standard for Vegan Cuisine - Edit
A vegan friend of mine booked us here for dinner on a Friday evening when I came through Manhattan. From the first bite, it was obvious that this place had set new standards for excellence in vegan cuisine. I mean, I'm vegan, but something called "carrots" doesn't exactly inspire the salivary glands, but they were amazing. The lettuce cups were exceptional, and even the hummus. The main course of mushroom-walnut bolognese was full of umami flavors. It's very pricey, but worth it.

Cons: Seating is a bit squeezed.

Vegetables Done Right - Edit
Had a spectacular meal at AbcV the other night. Although the restaurant is technically vegetarian, it has an abundance of options for vegans. The menu is divided into different sections: cold plates; hot plates; noodles/pasta; grains; and dosas. For this visit, I focused exclusively on the hot section and chose two dishes, the market carrots and a half portion of the roasted cauliflower. The restaurant markets itself as a place where vegetables are allowed to shine. And shine they did. The flavoring on both dishes was distinctive and well-executed. The carrots came out roasted and sitting on top of hand ground nut and seed butters, along with a few chilies for additional flavoring. The combination was, at least to my palette, perfect--and not overly filling. The cauliflower--even the half portion--was a more sizeable and filling dish. It came with a shot glass of turmeric-tahini sauce that you could pour over the cauliflower. For added flavor, the cauliflower was served on top of pistachios and pomegranate seeds. A side of lemon gave me the option of adding in some acidity. These two dishes alone were worth the trip and, in my judgment, were reasonably priced as of this writing ($18) given the value.

Well conceived and unusual - Edit
Generally has well conceived and out of the box dishes. An exceedingly pleasant experience. I’m not usually a fan of small plate dining, but this place works.

“Undeniably Out of this World” - Edit
My Husband Booked us for My Birthday Dinner at AbcV. Our continued travels has given us the experience of high end chiefs in Spain & Italy who have been able to knock it out of ball park for our vegan palette. Abcv brings me to tears doing just that for us trying to live this vegan lifestyle here at home. It has been a struggle living in New Jersey, but grateful to be close to New York and finding places that have this quality. Jean George, we love you for the passion you bring and for encouraging other chiefs to start taking us high end plant based lovers seriously. The flavoring you have brought to your dishes are unforgettable and encouraging me to continue to grow as someone that wants to be creative at home. For those of you that are not vegan, it’s so worth the experience. I ate the spaghetti with mushrooms, mushrooms and me never got along, it has been on my “forever will never touch list my whole life”, yes I’m laughing at myself right now, unbelievable true, expect nothing less then a super great night at ABCV!

We were in from out of town and loved this restaurant. Beautiful space, friendly and prompt staff. The menu isn't totally vegan but mostly vegan and staff is knowledgeable about what is and isn't and how to modify. Perfect special occasion, date night experience. Love it!

Small, expensive portions - Edit
Not everything is vegan. The portions are TINY. I think it’s supposed to be a tapas place, but is poorly advertised as such and the wait staff isn’t helpful in explaining it. It’s a neat experience to go, since the aesthetic is so unique and it’s attached to a gloriously expensive furniture store, but it was just too expensive for what we got. It was still good, and some dishes were better than others, such as the dosa, but I would rather go to a nice dinner at Avant Garden, whose food is divine than to come here. It’s definitely an experience, and would be fun as a tourist, but you can get a better deal elsewhere

Creative variety of dishes, all delicious! - Edit
How wonderful to have the opportunity to dine here our last visit to NY. We were invited here for a social/business dinner, and the restaurant was selected by someone in our party who is herself a pro NYC chef. By the end of dinner she said "Wow, if I could eat like this, it would be easy to go vegan," and is now seriously considering making the full transition.

Treat yourself - Edit
It’s definitely pricey! Spent $100 on myself - eek! But it was a nice treat, one of my favorite meals - I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. You have to get the Avocado Wraps; they are THE best ever! The Spinach Spaghetti for my main dish was spectacular - I am still thinking about all the flavors in that - SO good. And lastly, for dessert I treated myself to the chocolate mousse and ate the entire plate myself!! The nuts with the mousse - I couldn’t help myself. The hostess wouldn’t seat me, because they were full for reservations, but I got there right at open and when I left after my meal, 1/3 of the restaurant was still unseated so that bothered me. Maybe people didn’t show up though I guess, idk. The bar was not comfortable to sit at; the stools don’t have high backs and the counter doesn’t extend out far enough so the taller you are, the further away from the bar you are in order to accommodate your knees (you can’t scoot in closer without your knees hitting).

Difficult to book for no good reason - Edit
Good food. Most dishes are tasty and creative, although they could offer new things or specials, as it’s always the same. The place is pleasant and nicely appointed. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. The crowd is more or less not too noisy. The greeting staff is icy and not terribly welcoming. Making a reservation is a nightmare. They tell you it is booked, when in fact it’s not. It depends on who you get to talk to.

Crisp Cali vibe, delicious vegan croissants - Edit
Ventured to abcV this morning because I heard they serve vegan croissants, something seriously lacking in this city. They definitely did not disappoint (though I wish they had take away on weekends). We sat at the bar and tried the vegan pastry basket, which include two bite-sized muffins and a small chocolate and regular croissant. Everything was delicious and service was very prompt and friendly. The restaurant is very bright and airy with a west coast vibe. It is a bit on the pricey side, but everything I tried was delicious.

a lunchtime adventure! - Edit
A friend recommended this place and wow was I impressed! First off, there are tons of drink options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Then ordering the plates is a challenge because it all sounds so good. We ordered 2 plates each and found it to be a very good size meal. Everything we had was high on the taste experience scale. These are truly innovative creations. If you like to experiment you will not be disappointed. This is now my fave place for lunch in Manhattan.

Great atmosphere and service, excellent cocktails and dessert - Edit
We sat at the bar, which was good in that we could ask the server working there about the food. My husband had a lemon cocktail (can’t remember the name) that was great. We liked but did not love our main meal. We shared the avocado in lettuce, the barley soup, fried rice and vegetables - my taste does not run to bitter/fermented and my husband does not like chile peppers. So we have trouble with newer cuisine I guess. The dosa with cashew butter, avocado and greens was very good and the dessert- carmelized banana with pomegranate and chocolate was excellent. It seems that everything vegetarian can be made vegan. The staff was very busy but friendly and helpful.
