Five and half Years ago I was facing a decision about the upcoming amputations that would most likely begin in as little as 3 months if I did not get my diabetes under control. I thought about the burden amputation would place on my wife and I just could not accept that I "needed" to go down the same path as everyone; managing diabetes with the outside prospect of a cure being found. I went home after the amputation discussion with my doctor. I had a new prescription of insulin and needles. I hate needles so being the coward I am about needles, I began to research the latest developments of dealing with diabetes. I was already a vegetarian and thought I ate healthy, but I was sick with Hypertension as well as high cholesterol. I read mostly the nih.gov site because I did not want to be sold some "cure" .
