It features powdered green tea (matcha) and a variety of local favorite accompaniments, from oshiruko (a sweet and filling soup-like dish with mochi pounded rice balls and sweet red bean) to a small squash cake made with locally-grown squash. Everything on the multilingual picture menu is vegetarian and almost all options are vegan, reflecting traditional Japanese cooking styles. Kitchen can alter menus to serve vegetarians and vegans by substituting dashi fish stock for kombu stock, replacing fish kamaboko with sesame tofu, strips of konyaku taro root instead of sashimi fish, and have other dishes including vegetable tempura, salad, and a tofu steak which is cooked at the table. Able to prepare elaborate multi-course vegetarian or vegan lunches upon request, using elements from shojinryori (Buddhist cooking). Focus is on seasonal and local food, including nut tofu, yuzu citrus from trees in the temple grounds, and a variety of vegetables.
